April 24, 2010 (YAMBIO) — Western Equatoria’s electoral standoff worsened yesterday as the Western Equatoria State is alleged to have ordered the withholding of election results and security personnel dressed in civilian closed had kidnapped some 2 electoral officials, Sudan Tribune confirmed Saturday night.

A Sudanese woman stands in front of a polling staff member as she waits to vote at a polling station in the outskirts of the south-central town of Yambio on April 12, 2010- (Getty)

The situation remained a stalemate, with security and political tension acute in the aftermath of the closely contested gubernatorial election.

The two kidnapped officials are: Alfred Gimigu and Benty Singba, both officials were employed by the State High Election Committee (SHEC) as IT professionals tasked to type elections results.

The two officials have been reported to have been brutally beaten by their kidnappers, but until now nobody knows their exact locations; all the security organs in Yambio have denied their arrest.

They were arrested as they wanted to enter the SHEC compound on Saturday morning.

In another development, Lawrence Sulubia, Head of State High Election Committee (SHEC) in Western Equatoria escaped an apparent assassination attempt on Thursday when a police car was sent to pick him in the middle of the night.

According to the reliable source, Lawrence Sulubia was called by the Police Chief in Western Equatoria Saed in the State Capital Yambio on Thursday at 11 Pm calling him to come and attend a very important meeting.

Following the call, Sulubia decided to call the SPLA Commander to confirm whether it is true that there is meeting. However, the SPLA Commander said, he is at home and denied the meeting.

With this Sulubia decided to inform the Police Commissioner that, He does have a car or transport mean; Saed insisted and said he is sending his own car to pick him, after a short while, a police car arrived at Sulubia’s residence and the police guards stopped them telling them nobody is allowed to see Sulubia during odd hours.

There was no way to insist because Sulubia escaped to sleep outside his house, but police officers continued to search for him in different houses where some people pointed his possible whereabouts, eyewitnesses told Sudan Tribune.

The rest of SHEC officials are either sleeping outside their houses or at the UNMIS compound in fear of being arrested at night.

Sudan Tribune tried its best to contact the SHEC and State officials, their telephone lines were either busy or power off.

Expert on Western Equatoria affairs say, the situation in Yambio is not safe.

Extra SPLA troops have been sent to Yambio and several deployments have been made close to one other in Yambio and all feeder roads within Yambio town and roads connecting Yambio with Maridi and Nzara Counties – nobody is allowed to go neither outside Yambio nor entering Yambio.

Schools and government institutions remain closed with SPLA and police forces patrolling the streets.

Governor Jemma Nunu will win this governorship no doubt about that because her rival and agents are always making loud noise;and in fact, the if someone always make alot of noise then he/she is always aloser. Confident count for to agreater leader but many words to the media. Thanks

    • 25 April 2010 04:23, by Greater Equatoria

How do you know Dinka Boy? Unless it is going to be rigged like in other states, such as the one where Angelina Teny won but the results were rigged.
But it seems the situation in WES is worsening.I think Sudanese, especially South Sudanese still do not know what Democracy is about. You can see what is taking place in WES.The person on power is supposed not to use his/her current position to intimidate opponents .I condemn the current governor of WES and the SPLM for using their powers to threaten innocent civilians.

      Dinka Boy!!

I sometimes fail to understand if you are a really dinka. All what you do seem to be at odd with most of the dinkas. You need to devise your standard otherwise your attitudes will make me believe that you are an alcoholics. You have not gathered any enough stuffs to make you understand life. What is your concern? The people of Unity State and Western Equatoria have rights to do what they like. Why do you like to play with the names of Dinka as a group instead of your fucken mum’s given name? Shut up and continue drinking in silent!!

          To Maker & Dinka boy!!

When we stage any political argument, we need to make the choice of words to be precise and contemporaneous. My temper won’t give an hints to what you guys are all about in this website. You have just decided to destroy the names of greater dinka tribe instead of making it shine as expected. I read all Dinka boy’s comments concering elections in Unity state and now WES. What you need to know is that people make choice when they have analyzed. I found Dinka Boy commenting on tribal line instead of national approach, We do not like to incite hatred among the communities through such media.

To you(Maker). You need to know that I am a political analyst and all my arguments have facts and supports. I don’t emerge from slumber and begin commenting as you do. I wish this website should be rating the comments we make to see where you will fall on the scale. When you know how to read and write does not mean that you are educated. There is much more than that to claim an equal sign in academic circle. Some may comment the way you do but if we meet face to face, you won’t be able to greet me. Get back to books and improve your status before you engage experts on complex arguments which need straineous thoughts.

          • 25 April 2010 06:57, by johnmaker

            Dr.Agany,

            Dr Agany,

First of all, your flimsy arguments will not convince me and others about the issue that we are commending at the moment. I don,t think whether you know what you are talking about. Perhaps, your illussion might help your naratives concerning the issues that you smeshing your mouth.

If you don,t know, then i have right to support governosr that i like in the South. Iam always supporting Taban Deng, Kuol Manyang, Jemma Nunu, Malong Awan, and many others because of their effort that i have seen during the war or during their leadership.

My friend, what is my connection with the governors that i have support in the South? my relationship is not base on tribe as you claimed but for their dedication works ever since in the moment. You said that i have been commenting base on tribe on Unity State and WES, is that true? i think you might be under the influence for sure. If you know iam Dinka by virtues then is Taban Deng and Jemma Nunu Dinka as well? please stop you murmuring comments because i know what iam talking about the you think.

I know your frustration on SPLM,and it’s because you have no clued about it,let alone your flimsy arguements.

Please stay away from me and JohnMaker becaues we are supporting the deligent governors on their effort but not on their tribe. They are different tribes if you don,t know. What is the national approach you talking about if you are not influence by grass. Please i hate traitors and weak heart people, caution!

            • 25 April 2010 07:53, by Dr.Agany

              To Maker & Dinka Boy!

"That what make less analysitical person."(maker) and "What is the national approach you talking about if you are not influence by grass. Please i hate traitors and weak heart people, caution!"(Dinka Boy) Is this the standard English you are claiming to be politicians? You poverty driven boys!! You will regret when you finally find yourselves against the odds that none of you will overcome.

Anyway, empty vessel make more noise. Continue!!!!

      Dinka Bush-fire,

Why until now Jemma and her likes have not produced their results? Do you think if Jemma was to be the genuine winner she will be silent, or she could have been the most noisiest one celebrating victory?

If the is the winner why is ordering the arrest of NEC officials?

Do you know why until now the results in WES and CES have not been announced especial the positions of governors?

Wake up Dog Boy, please do not spoil the image of Dinka, myself I have very good friends from that tribe, do not make me to lose temper against them.

Yesterday you said, WES people don’t like SPLM, how comes all the SPLM members who contested for paliarmentary seats have all wonl, why can’t you understand that, our problem in WES is that big mouth for nothing woman?

what do you take Bakosoro for? This guy is the true SPLM, why was he working at SPLM secretariat, if he was not an SPLM member?

The people have spoken - just wait and our victory accompanied with celebration.

      • 25 April 2010 07:47, by maumau

Col Bakosoro has won the election but they are delaying announcing the results to inflate figures infavour of Nunu like what happened in Unity state. MAUMAU

      Dinka Boy,

A lesson to learn from the Israeli-Arab conflict of 1967: President Gamal Abdel Nasser was continuously being fooled under the pretex that the Egyptian army have wiped out the Israelis, and it is only a matter of seconds that Tel Aviv would be captured and destroyed. What happened next: Sinai penisula and the complete anhilation of the Egyptian infantry and air force became the reality. Thanks to to the second in command of the Egyptian air force, a very brave general who took the courage to inform president Nasser of the looming scenario. Nasser had to declare a unilateral cease fire to save the Egyptian nation. Why can’t Kiir and his prostitute do the same? It is only a matter of time that the people of Western equatoria venge out their anger. I think Dinkas are not intelligent enough to learn from past mistakes. You do not understand the Zande people. Wait and see sooner.

    • 25 April 2010 11:08, by Whortti Bor Manza

      Dinka boy,

Col. Bakosoro Bangassi is a colonel in the SPLA army. A very brave gentleman who participated in many battles: Notables ones, Juba in 1992, Kubri Boo in Nagero, the most dangerous front line ever created by the SPLA by in all its struggle. How many sons of Western Equatoria fell in those places ? Where was Jemma Nunu by then? Busy with prostitution in Namibia I presume. Dinka Boy, you never had the experience of combat and battle. You would never utter these. This woman is the greatest liar typical of a first class whore. May she and those supporting her go to Hell.

    • 25 April 2010 12:48, by Bialach

      Liel Muor,

Intimidating her own people to achieve Dinka project and you say she will win, you are joking. Dinka Boy, why don’t think as human and see where you guy are wrong. Anway, I don’t blame you for you just half human

  • 25 April 2010 04:35, by Knight In Shining Armor

The care taker governor of WES Nunu is a terrorist. I fell sorry for you people of Western Equator. If she comes back into power, then you are in big trouble. May God guide you through this difficult time.

  • 25 April 2010 04:51, by king

It is very very sat to heard that election officials in WES are being threaten. This SPLA/M government has already lost credibility in the eyes of international community. This government needs to change it course before international community stop listening to them.
They need to recognized that CPA was brought by international community for the sake of the people of south Sudan to have freedom from Arab north. They need to stop arresting people and let civilians handle it.

      Dinka Boy!!

Dr. Agany is right about you. Everybody who red your comments eventually realised and awared that your commenting always based on tribal line simpley becaused of your Dinka’s SPLM/A lead government. All the people who red your comments have bad reputation about you and generally about Dinka due to your commenting images. And here are things people marked you for now from on that you are obsessed about your Dinka’s SPLM/A lead government. you are causing more division than uniting South Sudanese people to rally behind your lead government. You see things or issues in one sideminded and you never backdown or realised that others too have legitimate argument about the real issues facing South Sudanese people. You always thinking that your uncle, Mr. Incompetent President, Kiir might lose his position as a president of GOSS. I still don’t get it why you still thinking it must win for SPLM/A nominees while the PB already admitted some mistake in selecting governors to run for election and mention some irregularities in the selection process. So why are you inssisting to the truth and still talks yourself into odd situation. If all the SPLM/A nominated governors win. What is that mean from outside viewers due to all what happening now such as widespread intimitation, killing, kidnapping by the SPLM/A security forces. You know what their conclusion must be such an usually word that south Sudanese failed to rule themselves and allowing independent south sudan will be a doom to disater state. how will you depend such labeling with one sideminded while your uncle never anythings without geting confuse between words and keep flip flap. here what you need to do and you may have sounded argument, change your commenting style, stop supporting chaos, stop being bias, realise othres people vioces and let your Dinka’s SPLM/A lead govt stop terrorising civilians such as kidnapping, intimidation, threatening, arresting and shuting civilians to death and your obsession mind might be cure and also we might rally behind your Dinka’s SPLM/A lead govt and your uncle incompetent mr. kiir will lead us. it is not that hard but you maked it hard than while you not aware unless you listening to out sider vioces apart from yourself.
