Nile Commercial Bank hopes to resume work after currency exchange

August 1, 2011, (JUBA) – The Rumbek branch of Nile Commercial Bank hopes to restart services to the public of Lakes state once the process of exchanging Sudanese pounds into South Sudan pounds is complete.

The introduction of the new currency was one of South Sudan’s first acts after independence from North Sudan on July 9.

According to the manager of Nile Commercial Bank (NCB), Daniel Mabor Machol, once the currency exchange is complete across Lakes state his bank will resume operations for customers.

Banks in the Republic of South Sudan are the main centres for currency exchange in the nascent country.

Speaking told press on Monday, Mabor said that special arrangements are being made to pay people who have not been paid due to the focus on introducing new South Sudan pounds.

The NCB was declared bankrupt in 2010 for reasons which have not been made clear by the banks management.

Machol said: “Definitely, after when we finish the work of this exchange, people of Juba special the central bank of the Republic of South Sudan, they are trying to wake up this bank. There is a committee which forms to study the difficulties that we were facing.”

“My message is that let our client wait with confidence that everyone will get he money – this a message I would like to tell people of South Sudan and especially people of Lakes state”.

I would rather keep my money in my pockets than throw it into the lion’s cage in the NCB if the reasons to why it was declared bankrupt in 2010 have not been made clear by the banks management to gain customers trust.

I doubt how much the money NCB will put in its bank to run their business or how accuracy they do the work and/or may convince the customers-so the only to run this bank is to change the name of Nile Commercial Bank, NCB to any name other wise the management may be more and more bankrupt that can make some people end up in the jail

NCB Management take care, early the better

I doubt, Nile Commercial will not transform and operate successfully if it doesn’t stop employing cheap labors with no banking & financial skills. Management should tell the public why the bank collapsed first before the customers put their money into this corrupt bank.

In 2003, a lot of Juba University money has been looted by X, Y and Z. The money was used to establish the NCB in Nairobi. Many branches have been opened in the then Southern Sudan. Later, the wrongly based bank collapsed in South Sudan for reasons not revealed to public. Many people and entities have lost their savings. This bank is fake and wrongly based. I will never deposit any of my money in this black hole. I advise my clan and friends not to even walk by this bank.

I agree totally with those guys opposing the resumption of this so called NCB although I didn,t put a single coins to it, NCB is a big dug hole when things fall into it they are not seen or even uprooted from- so they should NOT cheat people to make the mistake again like some of the guys I know that have put their last pounds and are still crying now

My God, Is this guy confused? How did he declared that NCB will operate easily while they did not tell the people of lakes state the correct reason why did they went bankrupted? I am sure he is joking of course. Otherwise Manyang Mayom can withdraw this report from website. Greedy, and lacking of enough knowledge to manage Bank well is another problem.

Fake Bank, I will deposit all my money in my stomach where there are well equiped Managers who can operate beyond doubt. Crazy guys will put their money there. I am here and you can reach on +249900000009

The NCB sounds like NCP and needs to be transformed and renamed immediately because it caused a lot of problems and distrust among the people like name NCP.

They employed a lot of foreigners who embezzled a lot of funds and ran away and inexperienced and unprofessional national without prior of banking skill who were employed based on tribal or next of kin by branch managers.

We don’t want such corrupt institution which was full of tugs to exist again in this New Republic of South Sudan.

We should lodged our complaint to the manager of Nile commercil bank who did not managed the resources very well rather than saying that we could put our money in the pocket.

There is the money you can put in the pocket and the money that you can not, however putting our problems together to be answered by the manager is rather ok.

If the manager of Ivory bank can manage his own bank resources then the manager of the Nile commercial bank could have the same managerial ethics.

Iam advising the manager to be reliable, so that many people would line up for him like other bank.

    @kuac Agol

You are right Mr. Kuach, but I don’t think customers will trust them again this time with their New South Sudanese Pounds. They need to work hard to gain back the trust that the customers lost in them.
    They must observe the following:

    1. Trust
    2. Confidentiality
    3. Privacy and integrity
    4. Professionalism and ethics

Otherwise, I will keep my moni with me, no joke.
