British official to visit W. Sudan

KHARTOUM, June 3, 2004 (SUNA) — Mr. Hilary Benn MP, the British Secretary of State for International Development, will arrive in Khartoum on Sunday on an official visit, said a press release by the British Embassy here.

The press release said whilst in Sudan Mr. Benn will visit Darfur to see for himself the humanitarian situation in the region and the response to date.

He will hold talks in Khartoum with the Sudanese Government, UN agencies, Red Cross and international NGOs, the press release said.

It pointed out that this will be the first British ministerial visit since the signing of the protocols in Naivasha, saying the Secretary of State will also discuss future developments in Sudan, particularly the implementation of the Peace Agreement.
