New South Sudan rebel group calls for confederation with north

December 30, 2011 (JUBA) – A new rebel group by the name of South Sudan People Liberation Movement and South Sudan People Liberation Army (SSPLM/SSPLA) announced its formation this week to fight what they describe as “marginalization”.

FILE - Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) soldiers march during the Independence Day ceremony in Juba July 9, 2011 (Reuters)

According to the manifesto emailed to Sudan Tribune, the new movement says it emerged as a result of “marginalization of all the South Sudan political parties and civil society, failure to adopt a viable political road map which can galvanize and reward the Southern people for their victorious achievement of a just peace, the rampant corruption perpetrated by the SPLM-led government in Juba, neglect of the families of the martyrs in the war of liberation and the rigging of the people’s vote by the SPLM/A in the last elections and the SPLM/SPLA failures to delivered basic services to the citizens of the South”.

A unique part of SSPLM/SSPLA ideology is calling for a confederation between South Sudan and its northern neighbour.

“The SSPLA/SSPLM is fighting to establish United Sudan base on confederal system whereby the central government is based in Khartoum and represented by all two Sudan states".

"South Sudanese are fed up with the corrupt government of Salva Kiir Mayardit and therefore, all citizens of south Sudan are eager to see the Juba government been topple as soon as possible” said the manifesto signed by SSPLM/SSPLA chairman Tong Lual Ayat.

South Sudan became an independent state last July after its citizens voted almost unanimously in January to secede from the Arab-Muslim dominated north.

The newborn state has been grappling with tribal conflicts and insurgencies in different parts of the country.

This month, South Sudan army killed a key rebel leader, George Athor, who defected from the Sudan People Liberation Army (SPLA) following his loss in Jonglei state gubernatorial elections in 2010.

The SSPLM said it will carry out guerrilla style attacks against the SPLA ad establish an “effective propaganda machinery”.

“In order to be able to regroup and politicize the forces effectively, the SSPLA shall need to establish its own camps, in the following areas. 1: Meram. 2: Renk. 3: Maban” the manifesto said.

But Major General Bapiny Monytuil from the South Sudan Liberation Army (SSLA) Military High Command said in an emailed response to Sudan Tribune that they oppose the confederation objective.

"The people of South Sudan voted overwhelmingly for separation and nobody can reverse that. The democratic choice of the people of South Sudan has to be respected" Monytuil said.

"We have given Maj. Gen. Tong Lual Ayat one week to change his Manifesto if he wants to work with other South Sudan rebels. If he doesn’t change his stance, then, we will not work with him" he warned.

Juba and Khartoum have routinely accused each other of backing the rebel groups in each others territory.

Major Genral Tong Lual Ayat Should wash out from his manifesto .If one of counter part Dapiny warned him to change is manifesto that showing dis integrations between two of you.

    • 31 December 2011 11:24, by Mi diit

It is a big shame that some communities in South Sudan yet come up with traitor rebel leaders who want reunite South Sudan with North Sudan. This Tong Lual Ayat is a shame to Dinka community. The rest of rebels call to change regime in Juba, why not join them. Shame on united Sudan vision...

      • 31 December 2011 12:40, by Rommel

        Mi diit:

The fact that the leader of this new rebel is himself Dinka has absolutely no bearing on the Dinka community, as he’s not been provided with material or personnel from the community in question. Our citizenry has voted for independence on a 98% level, with the Dinka equally partaking in the Referendum > the largest tribe in the Nation, constituting over 35% of the population!

        • 31 December 2011 12:52, by Rommel

I agree with you on only one thing:

Tong Lual Ayat is a source of great shame, yes, this is precisely why he’s not been provided with a great deal of support. Contrast this with the support provided to Paulino Matip, a man who violently cleared and secured the oil fields for Khartoum with 50, 000 personnel from his community; a man who enabled and lubricated Khartoum’s war machine for decades..

          • 31 December 2011 13:04, by Rommel

The essential difference is that this man will not be respected by the Dinka community and will not be received with open arms and adulation. He will instead be reviled rejected and resisted; the same treatment afforded to the late Kerubino Kuanyin Bol, and the recently deceased George Athor.

He will get nothing from us! The fate of all such traitors that so happen to be from our community.

He[Tong Lual Ayat Lual]is a fool Dinka from Malual Jernyang lerge section in our region Bahr El Ghazal.
He is so stupid indeed, he think that the South Sudan Gov belong to Dinka. what a shame death to him.
I hate nyagat either Dinka or non Dinkas.
          what a shame?

      • 31 December 2011 12:46, by Dinka Dominated SPLA/M

Waw what a shame to mighty Dinkas? uncle Tong Lual Ayat Lual will die just like uncle Athor Deng Dut sooner.
I never come across such evil Dinka like this stupid Dinka of Malual Jernyang.
what the hell is he think he is? it is good for Bapiny Montuil to reject this wicked movemen of doom.
        death to Tong Lual.

    • 31 December 2011 11:36, by Darkangel

There is no shame in stating what you believe. The shame is on those that insult others for expressing their views. Many in South & North Korea would like to see their countries unite, just like Germany. So it is not strange for some southern or northern Sudanese to feel the same, this feeling is brought about my years of co-existence and integration of communities. Only racists & bigots object

      • 31 December 2011 11:58, by Mi diit

You really ressemble a slave heart if you support that first class traitor who calls for slavery of South Sudan again by the north. The two Germans were not enslaved by the other. Shame on those who still resist independence of South Sudan. Shame on you, Sir!

      • 1 January 2012 15:24, by Madut Tong

Lual Tong Ayat has no any logic of waging war against the government and the people of South Sudan. It is rediculus to rebel because of marginalization of the so called parties. Parties are formed democratically and pursue democratic methods of government Not rebellion. An attempt to reunite any divided country is an initiative that comes from people, not through the army.

    • 31 December 2011 13:42, by Pure Nationalist

Both are wrong (Baping and Tong), several battle were fought and a large number of S Sudanese heroes and heroens have died during the colonial war, war of liberation to make our land free from freign hands, now that the land is free, who do they want to liberate? Greed could be the answer. If its a matter of wrong leadership in Juba, let them form a party and particepate in 2015 election.

    • 31 December 2011 14:17, by Waucity

This is how you know that people in Juba are stupid, why give them popularity by writing an article about them..They will now recruit because you just announce them to the publicly..To empty Nuers, remember this country stand when we Dinkas stand...It never stand with you, so stop dancing.

    • 31 December 2011 15:50, by Man manning

"The people of South Sudan voted overwhelmingly for separation and nobody can reverse that. The democratic choice of the people of South Sudan has to be respected" Monytuil said.I agree with Monytuil that shows a sense of humor and citizenship.Tony Lual is a failed Dinka remember " All citizens are people but not all people are citizens"I am sure TONG is not a southerner, this is reveal.........

    • 31 December 2011 15:57, by Man manning

it is reveal when he insisted on reunification of Sudan as a whole that is a stupid and a nomadic idea, thank to Monytuil for not accepting a baseless idea although Monytuil himself is not legitimizing his mission and vision as a rebel leader.Because LATE DR.GARANG was fighting for a reason and that reason is best known to Juba government and a few lucky individuals in the south.............

    • 31 December 2011 16:01, by Man manning

But that does not means we go back to WAR against ourselves or the current government.Better form a political party and propagate your propaganda and win the election, if they are accepted by the citizens to be the truth.

    • 31 December 2011 20:54, by alhaz

A gradge of position is meaningless to me as south sudanese

I support the new rebel in its quest for confederation! SSLA/M, SSDA/M and SSPLA/M oyeeeeeeeeeeeeeConfederation with North Sudan Oyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! Tong Lual Ayat,
an other rag tag, stupid Dinka, daydreaming on mission impossible, uniting south and north.just like the rest of his likes, he badly needs titles; BENY, BENYDIT, SULTANT,GENERAL,mithapuol,ETC...why people can’t just give him all the titles he want on earth if he would leave disturbing our innocent souls.let him not bring his nonsense in Greater Equatoria because we gonna f***k his

    • 31 December 2011 12:02, by Mi diit

      Thanks Good Citizen,

Only those whose grandfathers did not participate in the 190 years of struggle for freedom starting with Turkish and British will beg to be slaves of Arabs again. Shame on the slave hearted.... Self-determination has brought independence and no more hope of reuniting Sudan...

      • 31 December 2011 13:14, by Rommel

This thinly veiled insult would only make sense if you had first established as fact, that the Dinka indeed did not participate in resistance to Turkisk and condominium rule. The fact of the matter is that the Dinka did resist both the Turks and the British, a wealth of information attesting to this can be sourced from the archives and in particular a great book aptly titled,

        • 31 December 2011 13:16, by Rommel

’Dinka resistance to condominium rule’. I’ll take historical evidence on the matter at hand over futile, mindless hate.

        • 31 December 2011 13:32, by Dinka Dominated SPLA/M

Rommel leave this delusion called Mi dit alone he so dumb to see the other part of the history.he is a nuer and you do not need to be bother about him

The path of least resistance is the path of the loser, Tong Lual from Malual Jernyang just like Ayii Bongo will surrender all.
          Death to nyagateen of Dinkas

  • 31 December 2011 12:49, by Chuangah

SSPLM was the Khartoum back millitia they will face the consequences of stepping into South Sudan soil, its an indirect declaration of war by khartoum govern against the Republic of South Sudan. iF North dont repect the sovereignity of Sudan we will depend our national territory.

there is no SSPL/M THey are South sudanese in the Sudan arm forces mobilized against South Sudan.

    • 31 December 2011 13:05, by Dinka Dominated SPLA/M

Tong Lual Ayat could be symbol of death in Dinka community and inparticular Malual Jernyang the lerge section of Bahr El Ghazal area.
His ideas will not be accepted by God
His death is close to call,
What a shame to mighty Great Monyjeng?
      What a militiamant?
      death to him,

      • 31 December 2011 15:59, by DeltaBravo

        To Dinka Dominated

I don’t think Dinka Malual Gernyang will follow him ,he will comes back just like Ayii Akol. During the Civil war we lost alot of civilian and brave warriors in the front line and back in Aweil. Coming to both Rebel in the South they are not doing anything good at all. ,if they want to fight as you had just mention ,they should participate in the Election of 2015.

Tong you better quit the rebellion because you are going to die for nothing.

  • 31 December 2011 16:15, by Joseph Canada

I don’t know why you Dinka claim to be patriots but hypocritical of peace. You must have been fed and Islamized and enslaved to the point where parasitism never leave your blood. you and you are shame to the country. Everyone want to be A leader and a robber of the nations wealth. Rebelling for your own interest!! You think the only way to a chiev peace is by wagging war on everyone in the south.

    • 31 December 2011 16:23, by Joseph Canada

You will form the rebel, grow rebel and die rebel. No wonder even those who seems to be educated From North America only to travel home to die as a gorilla with a rebel leaders than visiting your mothers and celebrating peace.Iam very disappointed with this culture of War mongers and traitors of the nation. To you its more immportant to be the second class and slave in your own country than citizen

      • 31 December 2011 19:07, by Rommel

        Joseph Canada:

Are you suffering from some kind of amnesia!? Where have you been for the last 20 or so years? The Dinka have provided more soldiers, more blood and more martyrs than any other ethnic nationality during the struggle. Some of our sections (Malual Dinka) have provided more personnel than entire regions!

Every Dinka rebel has been shunned and rejected by the Dinka people..

  • 31 December 2011 20:16, by Nguetbuny de Luelpiny

Tong Lual Ayat sound like Garang vision. It is good Idea but need change inside SPLA/M.good Making allied with Nuba,Darfur,Blue Nile and later the rest can be fixed with vote 2016.ButKhartuom support programe hasevil behind it.
Federation do not fightamong southerners, fight Arab and reunit Sudan under SPLA/M leadership. It just change weak leaders in south to unit the country by south.

    • 1 January 2012 11:19, by mohammed ali

Why you want to fight against Arabs?Do you think anybody in Sudan want anything which resebles what is happening in SS?You better finish fighting with each other then come and talk fighting with us, if you can!The Kingdom of Anarchy will not survive another 5 years under the leadership of the SPLA thugs!

      • 1 January 2012 12:12, by Daniel Buolmawei

Well, we will survive Mohammed. Arabs wish us death for a century now, but we even grow stronger. That tribal clashes are nothing new. Those tribes have been clashing since during the movement but we have been surviving until now. Imagined days of 1991’s, but here we are. What do you think can tear us down than that? And by the way, I will become president of the Republic of South Sudan in the----

        • 1 January 2012 12:19, by Daniel Buolmawei

near future and all that will end. Khartoumers will quit political propagandas and lies, otherwise, there will be consequences. Tribes will stop bikerring and will embrace one another against Kartoumers, and rebellions in the South will surely end. I have a very powerful strategy how to end all these but I won’t narrate it to you Mr. Mohammed.

          • 1 January 2012 12:23, by Daniel Buolmawei

"The Kingdom of Anarchy will not survive another 5 years under the leadership of the SPLA thugs!"

What a blinded, assimulated and identity-confused arab supporter?

  • 1 January 2012 12:48, by Dengda

What so called ssla lack one thing, rebellion objectives but rebel for sake of rebellion. What comparison does khartoum regime has over RSS in term politically and socially inclusiveness. Revolt of no base is will be treated as terrorism act, don,t look up strong term from dictionary to define your course, marginalization is what north been doing to us for lat fifty years, shame on lual leadership

  • 1 January 2012 22:30, by Michael Miyom Minyiel

Gen.Athor was the only kingpin leader of all the newly emerged rebell groups in S.Sudan.
These current rebell groups are nothing and they will not deserve us in our sleep.
No agreement between the rebells on their agenda.

  • 3 January 2012 10:53, by Jebel Kujur

Guys remember that the so called media of today is being used by many with easy access to online public forums as battle ground/frontline and postings as bullets/bombs.
My advice to all South Sudanese is that whenever we receive articles and postings its is important to critically understand the commenter or article writer intension and perhaps guess who the writer or commenter could be.

  • 3 January 2012 11:13, by Jebel Kujur

I have come to realize of late that here names actually do not represent the true identity of commenters and some article writers. Infact according to my own analysis, over 65% of the commenters here are enemies of south Sudan and are Non-South Sudanese adopting South Sudanese Names. They are employed by enemies to work day and night to breed hatred among the South Sudanese. Hell to them.
