CORRECTION: Two military alleged to have shot at man in Lakes State

Contrary to the eyewitness reports quoted in this article, the man alleged to have been shot by soldiers on Monday, Makol Mabuoc Nyintok, was not killed but was taken to Rumbek Civil Hospital by a relative on Tuesday with an injured mouth.

July 1, 2012 (RUMBEK) – Two men in military uniform are alleged to have killed a cattle herder in Lakes State on a roadside near the Achol Malek residential area, in Cueibet County.

The dead man, Makol Mabuoc Nyintok, was alleged to have been shot for refusing to take off a cap of the South Sudan’s army (SPLA).

The suspects are reported to have fled towards Warrap State. A SPLA soldier was later arrested in Barhgel on suspicion of taking part in the shooting. Another soldier was arrested in Tonj, .

Cueibet County authorities are requesting that the soldiers face justice and demanded an investigation to help normalise the situation between the SPLA Cueibet County residents.

“Late Makol Mabuoc Nyintok was killed at 2pm in place called Achol Malek, just 12km away from Cueibet County headquarters” the county’s official spokesman Mathew Chol.

Chol said that SPLA soldiers suspected for having killed late Makol had not disclosed the division they belong to. A serious investigation was underway he said.

CATTLE RAIDING

Rumbek North (Maper) County of Lakes state has alleged that the neighboUring county of Cueibet youth have attacked a nearby cattle camp stealing 130 cattle on Saturday.

The county’s official spokesman Makuei Tinyjok, said that those cows looted belong to Matoc Ajong Aweckoc, Majur Amoth Mathiang, Chileu Borok Adit, Maliet Gumnok Ater and Dechol Chier Ruop.

County spokesman Mathew Chol stated that county security agents will investigate whether the claim of the cattle raid is correct.
