Sudan’s army denies using cluster munitions in South Kordofan

May 27, 2012 (KHARTOUM) – The spokesperson of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Colonel Al-Sawarmi Khalid Sa’ad, has emphatically denied allegations of using cluster bombs in fighting against rebels in South Kordofan State.

Last week the London-based Independent newspaper published two photos of unexploded cluster bomb allegedly dropped by a Sudanese warplane on 15 April in Ongolo village in the Nuba Mountains of South Kordofan.

The pictures identified the bomb as "a Soviet-made RBK-500 cluster bomb containing AO-2.5 RT submunitions".

Cluster bombs are a type of explosive weapon which scatters sub-munitions or bomblets over an area. The use of cluster bombs is prohibited under the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM) which, since its adoption in May 2008, has been signed by 71 country states not including Sudan, China and the US.

Human Rights Watch (HRW), a New York-based advocacy group, issued a statement urging Sudan to probe the discovery and join the CCM.

But according to Al-Sawarmi, SAF does not even have cluster bombs to use them in South Kordofan, where it has been battling rebels of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement North since June last year.

“Whether or not we end up joining the international treaty that bans cluster bombs, the fact remains that we never use them in our military operations and we don’t have them to begin with” he said in statements published by local newspapers on Sunday.

The rebels accuse SAF of continuous aerial bombardment and use of weapons prohibited under international laws.

Ask your white masters to "set an example" for the third world countries.
They must stop the fabrication and selling the cluster bombs.

It is better you know the distinction because there is no grey area between white masters and black masters. Unfortunately, the blacks masters ironically serve the white masters though they consider themselves arab, they are black and therefore inferior in their self esteem to be proud as africans and avoid using other tribes as their slaves. And you a Jaali, what are you?

HRW must first ask USA to stop the use of cluster bombs.

HRW must first ask ISRAEL to stop using of cluster bombs in south LEBONAN.

HRW must stop double standrads and not only support what supported by USA, UK, FRANCE and ISRAEL.

HRW must understand that the population of the world is 7000 millionns and all of them are human beings without segregation based on color, race and religion.

Hunman Rights Watch said it had interviewed survivors of the Israel attack, who described incoming artillery shells dispensing hundreds of cluster submunitions on the village.

Human Rights Watch also released photographs, taken recently in northern Israel, of what it said were American-supplied artillery shells that had markings showing they carried cluster munitions.

When reporting any statement by Colonel Al-Sawarmi Khalid Sa’ad always keep in your mind the fact that Colonel Al-Sawarmi Khalid Sa’ad always denies any bombing by SAF.

He denied the bombing that killed 5 civilians in Bentiu market place that killed civilians, as well as the bombing of Yida camp, both independently witnessed by international news agencies.

Once again he denies the evidence.

sudan doesn’t even have cluster bombs.......we are a country which is developing its agricultural sector.........these bombs could easily damage our development in agriculture.........take south sudan as a clear example.........

    • 30 May 2012 10:01, by codewizards

They can damage your agriculture only when you drop them, right? How do you drop them on yourselves or your fields? This is just an illusion statement. Not logical at all! How old is Sudan from Independence to date? u have all kinds of weapons brother. Since u are a civilian, u talk what u don’t know. U even make weapons in Khartoum. Remember 1998? I know where you make chemical weapons.
