Sudan to release 5 POW’s from South Sudan army, urges reciprocation

February 6, 2013 (KHARTOUM) – The spokesperson of the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF), Colonel Al-Sawarmi Khalid Sa’ad, announced on Wednesday that they plan to release five prisoners of war (POW) from South Sudan’s People Liberation Army (SPLA).

Col Sa’ad said the five soldiers were captured in mid-2012 in an area called Kafan Dibi, which is part of South Darfur state, during an incursion attempt by the SPLA. It is one of the border regions that are in dispute between Khartoum and Juba.

Darfur rebels fighting Khartoum since 2003 reportedly managed to occupy Kafan Dibi briefly in May of last year before the SAF recaptured it.

Sudan accused SPLA of taking part in the fighting alongside the rebels.

The army spokesman said releasing the POW’s was made as a gesture of goodwill and urged Juba to do the same and free SAF prisoners in its custody. He specifically named Brigadier Telefon Kuku who was an SPLM commander from the Nuba Mountains before falling out with its leadership.

Khartoum launched a campaign two years ago calling for his release from jail in South Sudan where he is being held without charges.

The SPLA POW’s will be handed over in the South Darfur capital city of Nyala next Monday through the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Col Sa’ad said.

He went on to say that Sudan expects South Sudan to demonstrate “prudence and foresight” by withdrawing immediately and unconditionally from six disputed regions it controls, stressing that the SAF is not incapable of protecting the gains of the people and the homeland.

Those are Sudanese rebels being released! They are not south sudanese. Ours are always killed if captured and therefore we don’t expect the fake arabs of sudan to be holding any alive. We would have killed all the 13 we got in Panthou last year but where? Under the coward president in form of Kiir hurriedly released them alive without conditions and later in the day people where bombed in Bentiu!

Al-swarmi is such a big liar. First of all Talafon Kuku is not one of SAF, he is an SPLM/A. Second of all he was not captured in the war. Third of all he was arrested because of his action. Like any other party, SPLM/A is a party or institution that has manifesto which guides its function. So Al-swarmi back off from SPLMN’s business, fool.

Another SAF fool is struggling to fool people. If Khartoum is not happy with the freedom fighters of SPLM-N/SRF who hail from Darfur and Nuba Mountains, how can Telefon Kuku be isolated from the group and at the same time be SAF officer? Was Kuku captured in the battle of Kafan Dibi by Darfur rebels, SPLM-N or South Sudan Army, SPLA?

We are not AU/Qatar that you fool around with. How can NCP talk for peace between Sudan and South Sudan in Africa under AU and hold another peace talks for Darfur in Qatar? One person is fooling two regional organizations, hoping that he will still win their heart and mind since UN/international actors won’t make any effort to say “No” or “Shut the hell up”.

The only solution to Sudan’s problem is teaching military lesson, as it happened in Irag under Sadam Hussein, Libya under King of Kings and Mali that NCP will never forget but resort to preaching peace instead of war mongering and intransigence. If international norm of acceptable behavior is expected from every UN member state, why no red line and when will it be drawn to stop Sudan/Iran?
