Kuwait grants Sudan 10-million-dollar aid

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 11, 2004 (Xinhua) — Kuwait grants Sudan 10 million US dollars worth of aid, in addition to the 1 million dollars announced earlier, Sudanese Ambassador to Kuwait Yousef Fadhel said Saturday.

Kuwait was among the first Arab countries to help the victims of Darfur, the official Kuwait News Agency quoted Fadhel as saying.

He noted that the Kuwaiti stance came in conformity with that of the Arab League which calls for the respect of Sudan’s unity and sovereignty.

The Sudanese diplomat pointed out that his country has carried out more than 80 percent of its commitments to the international community in regards to the Darfur crisis.

Fadhel also demanded the international community stick to its commitments to solve the crisis.

On the Kuwaiti-Sudanese relations, Fadhel said they are moving on a satisfactory level and that Kuwait is known for its strong stands in defending the interests of the Arab countries.
