Ugandan president receives IGAD mediators in Sudan

KAMPALA, Aug 3, 2003 (Xinhua) — Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has received the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) mediators in the peace process in the Sudan, led by Lt. Gen. Lazaro K. Sumbeiywo.

The meeting was held on Saturday evening at Museveni’s hometown of Rwakitura in Southern Mbarara district, according to a press release issued on Sunday by the State House.

Other members of the team that called on the president included ambassador Mohammed A. Omaro of Eritrea and ambassador Murad Musa of Ethiopia.

They briefed President Museveni on the progress of the peace process in the Sudan.

President Museveni commended them for the good work done and reiterated the Uganda government support to the IGAD mediating efforts, the press release said.
