Sudanese ruling party plans visit to areas under SPLM control

KHARTOUM, May 22, 2005 (Sudan Tribune) — The Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A) and the ruling National Congress (NC) have agreed to continue with their consultations on how to put the necessary arrangements in place ahead of the National Congress’s planed visit to the regions under the SPLM/A.

yasir_arman.jpgThe SMPL/A spokesman, Yasir Arman, has said that the two sides have discussed the issue in a meeting which was chaired by Niyal Deng Niyal from the SPLM/A and Majzoub al-Khalifah from the NC side.

He said that the meeting has discussed the vision of the NC which was prepared on this matter which included the places it intends to visit as well as the arrangements being made by the two sides.

He said that the date for the visit has not been fixed, but would be after the completion of the work of review commission.

Regarding the readiness of the SPLM/A to visit various regions in the north, Yasir Arman said that the SPLM/A has no problem in visiting any region in the north.

He further added that the SPLM/A is currently making contacts with some personalities and singers to make arrangements for John Garang’s visit to Khartoum, the SPLM/A leader, at the end of June.

Arman also said that the meeting has reaffirmed the importance of finding machinery of resolving the political dimensions of the problems facing displaced people and the continuation of contacts with the political forces, which did not participate in the review commission.
