Eritrean ruling party, Sudanese opposition alliance sign pact

ASMARA, July 3, 2005 (Shabait.com) — The Leadership Council of the Sudanese National Democratic Alliance (NDA) that began its meeting on the 29th of June at the Hotel Intercontinental Asmara under the theme “Building a Peaceful, Democratic and United Sudan” concluded yesterday 2nd of July, 2005 by endorsing a conclusive declaration and signing of an 11 point mutual agreement between the People’s Front for Democracy and Justice and the National Democratic Alliance of the Sudan.

The agreement was signed by Mr. Yemane Gebraab, head of political affairs of the PFDJ and General Abdelrahman Seid, deputy chairman of the National Democratic Alliance of the Sudan.

The 11 points of agreement reached between the two sides that were based on the historical and cultural relations between the brotherly peoples of both countries, included joint efforts of both parties to work for lasting peace in the Sudan, strengthening of diplomatic ties and mutual benefits between both countries, challenging of all sorts of intimidations and terrorism, improving respective sides trade, Industry, and Tourism sectors, joint efforts of both sides in meeting all diplomatic, political, informative, regional and international affairs, conducting of meetings both in Asmara and Khartoum to further solidify the relations of both sides, encouraging of cooperative workings among humanitarian organizations and to establish a joint committee that would oversee and enforce relevant issue.

Regarding the conclusive declaration endorsed by the NDA, it underlines the National Democratic Alliance of the Sudan’s unreserved efforts to work for the improvements and strengthening of historical ties between Eritrea and the Sudan and to bring lasting peace in the country.

After appraising the resilience of the people of the Sudan in their struggle, the declaration endorsed commended the assistance and committed support the people and government of Eritrea heave extended towards the justified stance of the Sudanese people’s struggle.

Moreover, in a press statement the National Democratic Alliance of the Sudan issued, opposed the negative stance of the regime in Khartoum that is threatening the peace of the region and that of Eritrea and the Sudan and further assured its commitment to work for challenging all sorts of problems, including the Dharfour issue and Eastern Sudan.
