UN peace force starts deployment in Sudan

KHARTOUM, July 20, 2005 (SUNA) — The United Nations Mission in Sudan announced that 134 officers and 129 military observers and 951 troops are being deployed at six sectors which are due to witness deployment of 10,000 troops.

In a press conference Wednesday, the spokesman of the mission said that the UN forces will provide the observers with protection at the sectors of Juba, Wau, Malakal, Kadogli, Abiye and Kassala.

He indicated that the heavy rains in most areas in south Sudan is affecting the deployment of the international forces, the logistic work and establishment of houses for the troops and the cease-fire observers.
