US official to visit Sudan on 22 October

Oct 11, 2005 (KHARTOUM) — The US deputy secretary of state for African affairs is expected to visit Sudan on 22 October, the state-run SUNA said.

This was announced by the US charge d’affaires in Khartoum, Andrew Steinfeld, during a meeting with Minister of Cabinet Affairs Deng Alor Kwal this afternoon.

The US charge d’affaires, Andrew Steinfeld, said that the US deputy secretary of state would hold talks with the Sudanese President Omar al-Beshir and his First Vice-President, Salva Kiir, as well as the Foreign Minister.

During the meeting, Steinfeld congratulated the minister of cabinet affairs over the formation of the government of national unity.

Their discussion centred on the steps taken in the implementation of the peace agreement, the mechanism and committees set up as well as the role of SPLM (Sudan People’s Liberation Movement) in resolving the Darfur crisis.
