Kenya to open liaison office in South Sudan

Oct 25, 2005 (NAIROBI) — Kenya is to open a liaison office in Southern Sudan. And the Kenyan government announced yesterday that it had launched a website to guide Kenya’s would-be investors in that country.

According to the Kenyan newspaper The Nation, the information would include tenders, jobs and other investment opportunities in major towns

The news came a day after the Southern Sudan formed an autonomous government as part of the peace deal with the Khartoum government signed in Nairobi in January.

In Nairobi, the liaison department of the President’s Office said the new Southern Sudan government had opened a vast trade and investment opportunities for Kenyans.

But those eyeing the lucrative tenders would be scrutinised to ensure only those with a good reputation got opportunities, said Mr Albert Origa, the liaison’s assistant director for trade. He was speaking at Kisumu’s Aga Khan hall when his team met with local traders.

Origa said the Government wanted Kenyans to reap maximum benefits from the reconstruction of Southern Sudan.
