Sudanese presidency to review peace deal implementation

Feb 8, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese president Omer Al-Bashir, is due to meet next Monday with his two deputies Lt Gen. Salva Kiir and Ali Osman Taha to review the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) and to approve arrangements and steps pertinent to achievement of the coming steps in the process.

The First Vice – President, Lt Gen. Salva Kiir, and the Second Vice – President, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, met Wednesday at the Republican Palace and discussed the implementation of the CPA and political, legislative and executive arrangements to reactivate the institutions and commissions which were set up in accordance with the peace agreement.

They also discussed ongoing arrangements related to implementation of the remaining items of the comprehensive peace agreement. Meanwhile, Kiir and Taha agreed on reactivation of the work of the joint political committee toward bolstering the partnership between the National Congress and Sudan People’s Liberation Movement.

They deliberated about the preparations for the coming gathering of Donors scheduled for next March in Paris. They further deliberated about the issues which will be discussed by the current mini African Summit in Triploi, Libya.
