Mar 1, 2006 (NAIROBI) — Southern Sudanese women’s rights activists want the Government of Southern Sudan to address issues of women’s rights and marginalization.
The activists, drawn from a consortium of southern Sudanese women against violence, held a one-day workshop in Nairobi, Kenya on Monday 27 Februar.
The meeting was held in preparation for International Women’s Day celebrations to be held next week.
Speaking to Sudan Radio Service (SRS), the chairperson of the consortium, Anisia Carlo Achieng, said they will advocate for women’s rights in the government of Southern Sudan. She said it will be in keeping with this year’s theme for International Women’s Day, the role of women in decision making.
Anisia Carlo said this one-day workshop objective is to create awareness about leadership and decision making status on women in southern Sudan and we are focusing on International Women’s Day, which the theme is women on decision making. We want to give our message, we want more women in decision making and how and to whom this is our focus for the one day.
Ms Achieng said they are working for the inclusion of women in decision making, adding that there is need to prepare women for leadership and decision-making roles.
