Sudanese protesters call for expulsion of US envoy

Mar 2, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — The headquarters of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) in Khartoum today witnessed a gathering of angry crowds protesting against a statement attributed to the US chargé d’affaires in Khartoum, Cameron Hume.

The crowd expressed their anger and called for the immediate expulsion of the US diplomate and the closure of his embassy.

The protesters accused the US envoy of offending the Prophet, as well as the people and government of Sudan, the official SUNA said.

Alwan daily newspaper reported that Hume said to a Sudanese businessman in a reception at the US Embassy in Khartoum “Go and tell this to your government and your prophet”

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry summoned the American Charge d’affaires Cameron Hume and inquired about what had been attributed to him in Alwan newspaper published on Wednesday.

The crowd than continued with their demands, which were written on placards, reading that they would fight what they termed as nations of sinners and deception, describing the US Administration as the plague of the century.

The angry crowed announced its readiness to defend [its] religion and nation, and stand against the swaggering Americans.

They urged nations of the world which love peace to condemn this kind of behaviour, which is extension of an organized campaign by international Zionism against Islam.
