Sudan says eastern talks will restore ties with Eritrea
June 7, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese government has said that forthcoming talks with the Eastern Front would definitely restore bilateral ties between Khartoum and Asmara back to normal in preparation for an atmosphere of negotiations.
In a statement to Sudanese Media Centre, the minister of foreign affairs, Lam Akol, reiterated the government’s full commitment to hold talks with the Eastern Front on 13 June at the Eritrean capital Asmara.
Akol said the Sudanese-Eritrean ties had overcome the phase of estrangement and is heading towards normalizing ties through high-level diplomatic representation.
He said Sudan would name its ambassador to Eritrea in the near future after the Eritrean ambassador to Khartoum recently handed over his credential letters.
yesterday Issa Ahmed Issa who was appointed as Eritrean ambassador to Sudan presented his credentials to the president, Omar Hassan al-Bashir.
During the occasion, President al-Bashir and Ambassador Issa discussed ways of consolidating relations between Eritrea and Sudan, and asserted that relations between the Eritrean and Sudanese peoples were historical and everlasting.
