Sudan’s SPLM will not be disappointed if southerners choose unity

Feb 20, 2007 (JUBA) — The secretary general of the ruling party in southern Sudan said SPLM fought for the right of self determination adding that his movement will not be disappointed if the people choose unity with the north.

“No, we will not be disappointed. In actual fact, the SPLA has fought to affirm the right of the people of southern Sudan to determine their own future in a free referendum and we as SPLA have struggled to win that right for the people of southern Sudan.” Pagan said.

“It’s the SPLA that won the right to self-determination for the people of southern Sudan and we will ensure that this right is exercised by the people of southern Sudan. So, if the people choose, we will not be disappointed. We will proceed to build a new Sudan, both in the south and in the north.”

Amum was speaking at Juba International Airport on Friday on his way to Khartoum to brief officials of the National Congress Party on the outcome of the recent SPLM politburo meeting in Yei.
