April15, 2007 (KHARTOUM) — The presidential advisor, Nafie Ali Nafie, discussed Darfur crisis with the deputy US Assistant Secretary of State, John Negroponte, this morning in his office at the presidential. The two sides tackled the situation in Darfur in the framework of the recent Addis Ababa accord.

In a statement Nafie expressed hope that this accord would become the final peace accord and that it will also get support from the USA and the UN Security Council, affirming Sudan’s acceptance of this peace accord, the state-run SUNA reported.

Nafie called on the UN and the international community to support the African Union in the three phases of assistance which will in turn stabilize the situation in Darfur and also convince those opposed to the peace process to join it.

He further said that the talks also discussed the Abuja peace accord and the government’s implementation of the accord and the subsequent formation of an interim authority in Darfur.

He expressed his hope that this meeting would lead to normalization of relations between the two countries — Sudan and USA — adding that Sudan endeavours to have good relations with all nations.
