Obstetric, Neonatal care training ends in Rumbek

July 3, 2007 (RUMBEK) — The ministry of Health of the Government of Southern Sudan (MOH-GOSS) and the State MoH of Lakes State, in cooperation with United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Southern Sudan programme, announced the end of the training on Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care.

This second series of training commenced on 4th July 2007 at Bros Hotel and Rumbek state hospital and has lasted for one month. UNFPA supported the MoH (GOSS) and the State MoH to roll-out this important training to the States. This training is a follow-up to the inaugural EmONE training of trainers which was held in Yei Civil Hospital during the months of February and March 2007.

The training ceremony was attended by Lakes State governor, Daniel Awet Akot, Minister of Education, Gordon Maker Abol, Minister of Information and communication Adak Costa Mapuor, Minister of Health Dr. Permiana Marial.

Training was held at Bros and Company started from 5 June 2007 to 03 July 2007 and trainees are grant with certificate with word that to carry on their performance duty in Lakes State and other areas concerns to be helps in health Care. Number of participants was about 45 fix.

Dr. Permiana Marial, State Minister of Health, said that 2000 mother die in South Sudan during birth period and this is why we took this course to be very important to help our current mothers. Today trainees are they right people who can do this work in this blank hour of death in South Sudan. Problem of early marriage is totally point-blank case in Southern Sudan to be given a solution that can avoid mothers dead during birth period.

Daniel Awet Akot” Governor of Lakes hailed in his speech the organization of the workshop. He further said dedicating his efforts nowadays after the CPA to realize the welfare of southern Sudanese in the state, and that healthcare is one of his top priorities.

The governor disclosed that his government has granted 25 millions this year for health sector in Rumbek and maternity care in the Lakes state. He underscored the need to protect children and women.

Daniel Awet concluded that 200 doctors form Lakes State only are in Diaspora and they are not coming back home to help their people in all those complex diseases. “We are planning to bring 50 tractors to Lakes State and I hope our brothers in Australia who are specialized in agricultural work come back home to train people on how those tractors can use for cultivations.
