Darfur meeting to start Sunday in Libya

July 14, 2007 (KHARTOUM) — An international meeting will start Sunday in Libya to consolidate efforts to end the four year conflict in Sudan’s troubled region of Darfur; the Sudanese government delegation will be lead by the State minister at the foreign ministry.

The aim of the conference, to be held in Tripoli, to evaluate the progress of the roadmap on Darfur, which seeks to converge various diplomatic efforts to end the civil war there into one initiative led by the UN and the AU.

Contrary to what was announced by some rebel group the meeting will not include Darfur rebel groups.

13 countries have been invited to attend the conference including Sudan, Chad, Egypt, Eritrea, China, France, Russia, Britain, the United States, Canada, Holland and Norway.

Sudan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mohamed El-Samani El-Wasila, will lead the government delegation to the meeting.
