Sudan cooperates with Indonesia to develop fishery sector

July 29, 2007 (JAKARTA) — Sudan will cooperate with Indonesia to development its fishery sector, visiting Sudanese minister of agriculture and forestry Mohammad Al Amin Kabashi Isaa said here on Saturday.

Isaa said during a visit to a fish pond project in Karawang, West Java, said Indonesia had a long experience in the field and therefore “we wish to cooperate with Indonesia, especially in shrimp pond farming.”

The Sudanese minister was in the country since July 26 to reciprocate Indonesian agriculture minister Anton Apriyantono’s visit to that country last May.

Isaa said the Sudanese government is also interested to cooperate with Indonesia in the field of agriculture and plantation.

The head of the international and inter-instituions cooperation analysis of the ministry of fishery and marine resources, Sunggul Sinaga, said the Indonesian government was ready to send fishery experts to Sudan to give training in fish farming, fish processing, human resources development and marketing of fish farm products.

The Sudanese minister of fishery and animal resources and the Indonesian minister of fishery and marine resources signed a draft cooperation document in the fishery sector last March.

“There will now be a working group to carry out the cooperation,” he said.
