Iraqi oil minister to address South Sudan energy summit

July 11, 2022 (JUBA) – The Iraqi Oil minister, Abdul Jabbar Ismail has been confirmed to speak at the South Sudan Oil & Power (SSOP) 2022 conference scheduled for the country’s capital, Juba.

The minister, expected to speak at the conference via video, will talk on the prospects and rising importance of bilateral cooperation between the Middle East and East Africa as well as between Iraq and South Sudan.

The conference will take place from September 13-14, positioning the country as Africa’s brightest prospect for growth and development.

He will further expand on the ties between the two onshore oil producers; how the governments and private sectors of both countries can benefit from collaboration in energy; and capacity building in the local workforce.

The Gulf nation is a global oil and gas powerhouse, with vast onshore expertise and experience that could help transform the oil industry in South Sudan.

South Sudan’s oilfields offer significant opportunities for Middle Eastern companies, investors, and industry leaders, particularly from seasoned oil-producing countries like Iraq to participate in the nation’s energy growth.

Organized by the government of South Sudan in partnership with the Petroleum, Energy and Finance ministries, SSOP 2022 serves as the country’s official energy event and meeting place for the oil, gas and energy industries of the region.

Revenues from oil resources account for over 90% of South Sudan’s annual budget.
