Sudan to host Africa-Arab youth festival in March

KAMPALA, Feb 18, 2004 (Xinhua) — The Sudan is to host a one-week Africa-Arab youth festival in capital city Khartoum between March 2 to 9, Sudanese Ambassador to Uganda Siraj al-Din Hamid said here Wednesday.

The Sudanese ambassador made the remarks when he was meeting Ugandan Minister for the Presidency Alhaji Kirunda-Kivejinja Wednesday afternoon, according to a press release issued here by the Office of the President.

The festival which is to discuss a wide range of priority issues including international peace and security, democracy and human rights, Arab and African world issues, development and environment as well as conflicts and strife in Africa and in the Middle East, will involve over 3,000 youth delegates from Africa and the Arab world, the ambassador said.

The youth secretary under the ruling movement secretariat here in Uganda has been invited by the counterparts of the National Congress Party of Sudan.

Kivejinja welcomed the festival, saying that it will further promote cooperation and understanding among the youth, which will be a major investment in bringing peace, regional cooperation and integration, the press release added.
