Riek Machar, A true Nationalist Leader in South Sudan
By PeterT.Nguanok
March 4, 2008 — The governor of Unity State, Taban Deng, has recently accused Dr. Riek Machar of being a surrogate of the NCP Party. What a charge to make against a nationalist leader, who many believe paved the way for the current CPA.
First of all, Dr. Riek Machar fought alongside Dr. John Garang in the SPLA movement. He faithfully pursued the rights of the people of South Sudan against all odds, a right to self-determination, which even Garang himself did not believe could be achieved. Dr. Riek Machar upheld his views and finally won Garang to seek the right to self-determination for the people of South Sudan. Dr. Riek Machar broke away from SPLM when he saw tribalism and wrong vision dominated the movement, which was to fight for the liberation of people of South Sudan. He formed his own movement, SPLA-United. This breakaway faction signed an agreement in 1997 called the Khartoum peace agreement, which freely allowed South Sudanese to have a referendum to determine their own future; Garang finally agreed with Riek Machar and when the Arab failed to honor the Khartoum peace agreement, Riek went back to the bush.
Secondly, Dr. Riek and Dr. Garang forged an agreement in Nairobi, which brought both of them together, and Garang finally agreed with Riek that the right to self-determination must the main goal of the movement. When CPA was negotiated, it was the Khartoum peace agreement that Dr. Riek Machar signed with the northern government that resurrected the right to self-determination for the people of Southern Sudan. Riek proposals paved the way for the agreement to be accepted by all nationalist leaders in South Sudan.
It is unfortunate that some elements within the SPLM still accuse Riek Machar of being a surrogate of the NCP Party. The truth must be told that Riek Machar is the reason for the current CPA that South Sudanese enjoy in Juba right now. Riek Machar was the first leader to utter the rights of South Sudanese to self-determination. Garang had always maintained that he wanted a united Sudan. Riek Machar was the first to return to the bush after an agreement was water down; many southern leaders never return back once they get lured in by Arabs. Riek Machar was the first to stand up in the midst of Arab bribes and lies, and plainly told the Arabs in the north that Sudanese problem will be solved only via referendum. He was the first to show the world that South Sudanese people deserve better than deceptive politics in Khartoum.
I must add that Taban Deng Gai, an adopted son of the Nuer, does not have full rights to accuse this national figure with NCP link. Taban Deng Gai, perhaps, is the one with link to NCP. After all his father is an Arab merchant, who hail from the north. Who knows if he still has contacts with his biological link to the north! Therefore, the citizens of South Sudan must understand that Riek Machar does not have any link with the former foe, the northern government; he continues to fight for us, for our freedom. Do not give room to false attacks by our nephew Taban (Muhammad Al-Hasan), who due to the generosity of our people, found home in Bentiu. Taban, however, must know that we still reserve the right to kick him out if he shows sign of deceiving our people, as it is what his blood relatives do in the north.
Specifically, politics is seen as aparticular means of resolving conflict: that is, by what compromise, conciliation and neotiation, rather than throuth force and naked power. This is what is implied when politics is portrayed as ‘the art of the possible.’
Finally, we hope the issue of governor Taban, shall be resolved via, Bureaucratic muddle rather than Aational decistion making. Indeed, the people of Unity state fed up from Deng and therefore, they better off without him and needing the president Gen. Mayanddiet, and vice president Dr. Machar to respect their legitimate rights and get red of him sooner or later, thus the SpLM’s decision makers have no right to turn down the people of western Upper Nile state’s request for sacking of Mr.Deng who has already destabilized the State and poised to harm a true nationalist leader.

It is too early to approcaite Riek Machar because we do not know how long will the uganda peace will last, also not to forget the innocent civil massacred by Riek Machar in 1991. the 1991 genocide has not yet been put into justice, it’s only matter time and the people of Bor will ask their right from GOSS. No matter how good he works, there most be justice in Southern Sudan.

First, I would like to express this simple words of politic; It is worth notice that, whenever the truth come to place every man surprise and try to say what is not right. Let come to the point of Nationalist (Dr Machar) I don’t know what is wrong with southern Sudanese for liberator to accuse him without any evidences, Dr Teny sign Khartoum Peace Agreement which is now Comprehensive Peace Agreement!
Second thing I would like to tell everybody, particular Nuer and south in general, don’t touch anything with Dr. Teny if you are politician or want to be a leader in south, many Nuer will not stand with you; because Dr Teny was prophesies by Ngundeng Bong as liberator!
Thirdly, some people descript Dr. Machar as genocide making and massacre; why people only remember what was done through whole movement by many leader who are under leadership of Teny Dhurgon? Put in mind that every military man always comes up with such away! Who did not kill?
Fourth, let we southerner not to plant the spirit of tribalism among us; let build the bright future south nation, with good democratic containing all of us and our future generation let not start our Nation with racism, tribalism, and nepotism. Let put first above all, Nationalism, socialism, and democratic front of us and our former foe will ashamed.
Fifth, let me reminding you with this, when the CPA negotiation was started in the town of Machakos, south foe said that “these people are not willing to administering themselves, how can they ask for self determination” this was very great challenge to southern Sudanese front of international community, and now it come true, the southerners are become: corrupters, tribal lover and non democratize.
Lastly not the least, let not soon forget our former enemy still working hard to fight us in different direction let know we are going to fight a democratic war of speak through telling international community we are ready to administering ourselves.
Thanks

Khartoum’s Jihad, a Multifarious War
Khartoum’s Jihad, a Multifarious War
25/11/2007
Kharoum, Sudan – New Sudan Watchdogs Today (NSWT) has learned from reliable sources that Khartoum is gearing up for a multifaceted war. NCP Authorities and top Islamists in Khartoum have ordered the army to deploy hundreds of tanks, armored personnel carriers, and tens of thousands of troops, militias, and Mujihadeen along the North-South border for possible invasion of the South Sudan in this coming dry season in anticipation of the declaration of independence by the South Sudanese authorities. Islamists are also looking for possible ways to transport militias, mainly South Sudanese trained in the North and intelligent units to areas off limit to SPLA forces. The mission of these militias and intelligent personnel is to indentify weak corridors that could be used to bring in foreign fighters from neighboring countries to help in the Islamic regime’s war. The following are five fronts in this war planned by the Islamic Oriented Regime in Khartoum.
1 – Ground attack by infantry forces to size all the oil rich states in the South backed by massive airstrikes all over the Southern towns and villages.
2 – Assassination of prominent Southern political leaders by Southern Sudanese affiliated with National Islamic Front.
3 – Targeting of civilians by militias in different states of the South Sudan.
4 – Infiltration of GOSS, SPLM, and SPLA.
5 – Political campaign and media disinformation of Muslims from around the world, particularly, the Middle East to secure political support.
These are the five fronts which Islamists in Khartoum code named “Arqhan al Islamiya” or Five Pillars of Islam for the Total Liberation of the Land of Allah.
With the ground and air assault which would involve a close to one hundred warplanes, most of them made in China and Russia, the NIF hope that this massive fire power from the air would pulverize SPLA bases, destroy roads and bridges, and disrupt communication links before the militias moved in. Once this first phase of the war is completed, the army would then start a scorched earth campaign. Militias would round up civilians and put them in what Islamists called peace camps like the ones in Darfur. These camps would be sealed off and hidden away from the curious eyes of the international community and aid agencies. When this is done, the remnants of the SPLA that may be dug in to resist the invasion would have no choice but to surrender or leave with the rest of the civil population to settle in neighouring countries as refugees.
Khartoum Islamist diehards think that the war would be an easy war. They believe that SPLA is weaker than ever before because the weapons it has in its arsenal are the Soviet era weapons and are in poor condition. Technically, it is assumed that they are no march against Chinese made tanks WZ-123, Type 98, ZTZ-99, and Russian T-90s which are mostly assembled in Khartoum and given Islamist names like Bashire and Zubeir.
New Sudan Watchdogs Today (NSWT) has obtained credible information pertaining to the training of South Sudanese in their thousands by the National Islamic Front/National Congress to cause insecurity and tribal infighting all over the South Sudan. These elements are also instructed to assassinate key SPLM leaders and army commanders wherever they can find them. The aim of the plot to assassinate South Sudanese political leaders as well as high ranking military officials by using South Sudanese before or during the war for what Islamists call the Total Liberation of the Land of Allah is to create leadership vacuum and a possible power struggle among different tribes in inhabiting South Sudan.
It is a common saying these days among Islamists in Khartoum that “in the absence of a formidable SPLM leadership in the South which is holding South Sudanese together like glue,” the war to liberate South Sudan from the infidels and their Zionists backers cannot last more than six weeks. If this strategy succeeds, the NIF hope that it will manage to create infighting in the ranks of the SPLM/SPLA, win other factions to its side, hence rendering the remaining ones helpless, or simply create more factions as it did during the eighties and nineties respectively.
Another side to this stratagem is a culture of tribalism and revenge among South Sudan’s Tribes. Arab Islamists know that South Sudanese tribes are more loyal to their tribal roots than to their cause as Southerners. Southerners are also known to be good at revenging their tribal members killed by other tribal members. Therefore, if, for example, a Dinkawi assassinate an important Nuerawi, or Shilukawi, an Azandi or a fellow Dinkawi and vice versa, it’s possible the chain and the cycle of revenge will continue and Islamists assume that the few who may manage to stay away from this cycle of killings may be distracted to fight the real war and if they do, they will be no march against its war machines. Simply put, they themselves will either leave the South to seek shelters in neighbouring countries as refugees or caught up in the middle of the tribal fiasco and mayhem.
The third front is the front that would destroy civilian population. This front would comprise of tens of thousands of Murahleen, Southern based militias, fighters from landless Arab nomadic tribes from Chad and Mauritania, guerrillas from Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Eritrea, and elements of the Lord Resistant Army from Uganda. The goal of this front is to target civilians in various states of South Sudan especially in Upper Nile, Northern Bhar al Gazel, Western Bhar al Gazel, Western Equatoria, Eastern Equatoria, and Jonglei states respectively. Islamists in Khartoum believe that civilians in South Sudan have been the power base of rebellion during the last war and targeting them will deprive the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) of its lifeline and support, thus guaranteeing a quick victory to the Islamic circles. The recent decree issued by President Omar El Bashire to Mujihadeen and Popular Defense Force (PDF) to regroup and report to training camps was only the tip of the iceberg.
Concerning the infiltration of the SPLM and all the other institutions of South Sudan, NIF has somewhat failed to find true infiltrators who can do the job right. However, the few who are working for the NIF to cause insurrection, civil disobedience, and insecurity have minimal support from the local population and have hard times finding useful recruits in the army of South Sudan. So far, the activities of the infiltrators are confined to their tribal areas and localities. Nonetheless, even in these localities, local population has resisted their subversive activities for fear of a reprisal attack from the SPLA forces once they are discovered. And more importantly, the local population has learned a lot during the war and few are bent to sell their rights and freedoms for the sake of money to the NIF. This explains why Khartoum is courting regional rebel groups like the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF), Eritrean rebel groups like Harakat al Khalas al Islami or Islamic Salvation Movement formerly known as Harakat al Jihad al Islami, Chadian insurgents, and Central African rebel groups for support in the war against the South in return for military aid once the South is liberated from the infidels.
Another well planned front is the massive political campaign and media disinformation the Islamic government in Khartoum is designing. The obvious reason is that, authorities in Khartoum always portray themselves as defenders of Islam and Arab culture in its entirety and they hope that any threat to Islam would bring Arabs and Muslims on their side. Moreover, NIF predict that in case the war breakout between the North and the South after the two sides failed to implement the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA), or in case the South declares independence, it would be defined by millions of Muslims in Egypt and the Arab World in particular as a move designed by Zionists and the Americans. This move would be interpreted as a political manoevre aimed to undermine Islam and the Arab interest in Africa. Evidently, Islamists in Khartoum know that an independent South Sudan would not go well with Arabs especially Egyptians who see an independent South Sudan as a threat to their survival as Muslims.
In conclusion, Islamic Fundamentalists in Khartoum are counting on American relationship with the Middle East as an important weapon to use. With the Americans bogged down in Iraq, Islamists think that it would be a fatal political miscalculation on the part of United States to intervene militarily; therefore, America and the West in general will have their hands tied. In this scenario, the two would possibly use diplomacy for fear of tipping off their delicate relationship with their allies like Egypt and Saudi Arabia during this crisis. After all, Islamists hope that a quick and decisive victory would leave America and the world stunned and eventually, there will be no room for diplomacy to save the infidels from the South and the marginalized Areas of the Sudan from Islamists of Khartoum’s Jihad.

Iranian Chemical Warheads in the Sudan, Anonymous Sources Report
10/23/2007
Khartoum, Sudan – According to recent information coming from reliable sources in Khartoum, National Islamic Front (NIF) now turned National Congress Party (NCP) has the ability to deploy chemical weapons recently acquired from Iran and Syria. The sources indicated that the Islamist government in the Sudan is making progress in its development of a large and almost self-supporting chemical weapon program. It should be remembered that in the face of defeat by the South Sudan based rebels in the out skirts of Damazin, a strategic town where hydro-electricity is produced in Southern Blue Nile and Ulu in 1997, Khartoum tried to use improvised chemical weapons against the New Sudan Brigade (NSB) of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA). However, due to its inexperienced military engineers, the chemical-loaded shells exploded before they reach their intended targets and close to 3000 Sudanese soldiers were killed. This was the first time the desperadoes in the Islamist regime’s circles in Khartoum tried their unsuccessful luck. After the after-mass of Damazin-Ulu incident, Khartoum continues to upgrade and expand its chemical warfare production program and chemical loaded-munitions despite the bombing of Al-Shifta factory by the USA in 1998. The magnitude of this exerted effort shows that the NIF Islamists intend to produce large quantities of chemical weapons ready to be used against its arch-foes in Southern Sudan, Nuba Mountains, Southern Blue Nile, Eastern Sudan, and now Darfur in the event of war.
The Sudanese chemical agent production program and capability has an Iranian and Syrian backing. Both Iran and Syria are known to have stockpiled large quantities of chemical weapons with Iran being the most leading country in chemical weapons’ production which started when the Shiite regime led by President Bani-Sadr was at war with Iraq in the eighties. Both countries used chemical agents to respond to each others’ chemical attacks on several occurrences during that war. However, Sudan being the closest ally of Iran and Syria in the war against the West and Zionism, thousands of Iranian and Syrian military engineers are currently in the Sudan working around the clock in various Sudanese military factories. Since the late 1990’s and early 2000’s as well as after Naivasha Peace Accord, Sudan has put a high priority on acquiring chemical weapons’ warheads among other priorities so that its thin stretched, demoralized, and poor trained army could stand firm in various battle-fields namely in the south and east of the country. In this regard, some anonymous intelligence sources believe that most of the chemical warheads acquired by Khartoum from Iran and Syria are made of extensive and sophisticated agents, such as the highly effective and deadly nerve gas known as VX.
In these factories located in clandestine areas of Khartoum, Sudan has manufactured several thousands of bombs and a handful of SCUD missiles with chemical warheads that are able to cause fatal and disfiguring blisters and immediate burning of the human body, hemorrhage, and choking agents which obstruct respiratory system. With extensive foreign assistance, Khartoum is obtaining technology, chemical agent precursors, production equipment, and entire production plants. Although the Islamist government in Khartoum is making concerted efforts to attain an independent production capability for all aspects of chemical weapons program, sources familiar with this development believe that Sudanese Islamists remain dependent on foreign sources for chemical warfare-related technology. Iran and Syria are the most important suppliers of technologies and equipment for Sudan chemical warfare program and in any shape or form, Iranian government supply policy will be the key to whether the Islamist lead government of the Sudan attains its long-term goal of independent production for these weapons.
In the event of war, South Sudan’s army must be ready for any surprise because the NIF Islamists in Khartoum whose aim is to possibly sabotage and renegotiate the CPA are determined to use anything in their disposal to deter marginalized peripheries of the Sudan from achieving their goals. In other words, should there be any confrontation in the next few months, the SPLA, a popular army for the liberation of Sudan especially the marginalized Sudanese who are and have been in a position or state of having only a minor involvement in the affairs of the Sudan since independent must stand tall. And as a guarantor of peace, the movement must be ready to assure Islamists beating the drums and sounding the trumpets of war that collateral damage and reciprocated destruction in the event of an all out military combat is guaranteed.

I won’t like to waste time writing how good or bad this article is affecting the Southern Sudanese as now being prefers for Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A). Primarily, it was New Sudan that dominates during the war-time of need and moment of trust, but now South Sudan. What a mess?
Well, to be a true South Sudanese, one shall have struggled for the 21 years without substitution. Along this trend, Dr. Riek Machar qualifies to be a false Nationalist Leader in South Sudan.
Mr. Peter, avoid being lurred by Riek position for he will never claim South Sudan’s top seat till after death. But Dr. John Garang is the leader Sudanese martyres for he died as a sole freedom fighter. He never rested or took refuge to Khartuom for 22 years till July 31, 2005 when died on his line of good duty.

I have no interest to command on this tribal article but one thing in my mind is what hold our future, we south Sudanese. I don’t know and may be God knows. Actually, I will agree to what is always said by Northerners that we are not capable to rules ourselves. How will we get independent south in such a tribal tension in every part of south, whether in Equatoria, upper Nile, and Bharelghazal? According to late Garang, he said the identity of Sudan, especially south, Blue Nile, Nuba mt, and Darfur, and if we talk of south independent, we are making ourselves more enemies like in 1972 Nubian, blue Nile, and Darfur were fighting the south because the North used them against us. Even though you are the strongest you need to have some allies in order to win the war look for example the United States are powerful military, and economically still they need allies to win their interest in the world.
I like Dr Reik to become the next leader of southern Sudanese but he is not capable why because he graved the Nuer community by being divisive into many factions, he make Nuer to be unorganized and should be tough to control the Nuer community before he is our next president. Reik is a good guy, he is well educated, but what I don’t like about him is not active, not charismatic, a military man and we need active leader may be I would recommended Paulino Matiop to be our next leader because Nuer have right to lead the south this time. in south Sudan there is no better tribe either Dinka, Nuer, Zandi, Shilluk, Anyuak, Achol, Bari, lotuko, madi etc. either of these communities can lead if the person has the quality of leadership.
South Sudan is a richest place on the earth planet but we are misusing this wealth, and alien are taking advantage of the wealth and at the same time killing us. why do we allow ourselves to be second class citizen in our owned land that question is to Zandi , Dinka, Nuer, Lotuko shilluk etc.
What I recommended to all southerners is being able to communicate using pen should not be taken for grant to our local people who are innocent. We need to act responsible in what ever we do as intellectual. Education mean to change the way we live and not to bring wrong sign genocide to our communities, before we want to school or educated our grandfathers have their own way of handling their difference of opinion but now, we are
in the point of tit for tat. Just check for the speech of late Garang on the issues of the south. I couldn’t make a link here. http://www.youtube.com/John garang
thanks you all let us make changes and build our nation in hormany, coexistence, Oh God of all creation justic be found within our borders, let be unity and enjoy instead of hatred.

Sorry indeed to inform you Peter that your article is so arrogance, like undigested food. Pliz why can’t you keep silience and watch in good faith if there are some enticemnet getting into your mouth rather than messing your words for no confidentials statement. Your mere intentions here is just to cause chaos among the Southerners who are striving for the necessary path to get rid of the Arabs who are fighting hard to separate us from common interest as owners of the land. If you want to tell us that you’re doing political secience, make it in other good manner, not in akward way like this. Learn to be patriotic…that what prominent politician does. I am not going to respond to the accusations and the counter-accusations because not many who commented are telling the truth but I am only going to warn you.
I thought people of South Sudan have learned from what they got from being politically divided along the ethnic lines. Those inflamitory comments about DR.Riek Machar and Nuer will only set the world on fire.
Let’s be civil if we are civilised otherwise you guys sound so primitive and so naive.

Riek Machar, A true Nationalist Leader in South Sudan
Dear readers,
Let me appeal to you all not to concentrate on such articles written by shortsighted people like PeterT.Nguanok. What concerned me is your hot participation in responding to this article which is no more than misleading our people.
From my point of view, the writer has two things in mind:
1) Creating hatred and conflict between the two leaders, Taban Deng and Dr. Riak Machar.
2) Creating tribal conflict between Nuer and Bor Dinka ethnic groups in one region, Jonglei State.
If these two things happened, the writer will achieve his hidden agenda of destabilizing the two states of Western Upper Nile and Jonglei as well as causing failure to the Government of Southern Sudan in achieving its tasks among which is the census.
Again dear readers, if there is misunderstanding between Dr. Machar and Deng, Iam quite sure that in his capacity Dr. Machar can settle that without interference from a shortsighted person like Peter as he called himself. Dr. Riak is the Vice President of the Government of Southern Sudan who with the President appoints the state governors something that Peter does not know up to the date of his article.
As the writer also went as far as to insults based on family background which has no relation to the topic he was writing about as he said “Taban Deng Gai, perhaps, is the one with link to NCP. After all his father is an Arab merchant, who hail from the north”. So then let all of us not imitate him in his wrong doing.
My appeal also goes to both leaders, Taban and Machar to take measures against such people like Peter because that is not the way we can treat our leaders and that is not the way to remove them from positions.
Charnyang
Riek Machar, A true Nationalist Leader in South Sudan
Thank Peter for your very judgemental input.
For the tribalistic comments made by the Dinka Bor, I would like to warn you that Dinka-Nuer conflict is not caused by Dr Riek Machar. It was caused by your sons who made the Nuer home as a place of collecting cattles and workers. Chigai Atem, and other Dinka Bor could tell you how badly they had treated the people of Nuer when they were assigned by the late Garang. They had made Nuer boys to have Dinka Marks on their face and sexually forcing girls to accept their will.
The conflict of Nuer and Dinka was declared by Chigai Atem in the spring of the year 1989 when he met with Nuer elders in the village. He had allegedly forward the claim that Nuer will pay him 50 cattles to pay back Kuot Atem who was killed between the forces. He was told by one of Nuer elders that prepare yourselves to bring Samuel Gach Tut back, otherwise let wait for the numer summer.
Mind you that Garang who had slaughter all Gajaak people during his movement had never been call by the Nuer. He had killed all women and children when he declared his wrong war against the Nuer people in villages.
You also talk about Bor and Nuer conflict that it’s to be highlighted as a genocide. Where are the people whom you guys had slauhgtered such as commanders Gatwech Kuany, Peter Reath Kota, and all forces they command during the 1991 break?
Please Bor do not keep yourself as a media frontline fighter, preaching unreasonable war caused by Garang himself.
Why had your soldier deserted the Riek forces if you weren’t prepared to launch back an attack which you had made. All the forces commanded by all those abias or asuat made with Riek force in Puoktap. Where were they going?
They had burnt down the bordering village of Nuer and yet you claimed that you did not cause the war. Shame on you bor. Believe it or not Riek will be the president of South Sudan seconded by all Nuer boys. Your time is off the line of leadership of any sectors. You must build your dream outside of Sudan. Chances are, we may be going back to the unity of the Sudan if not, you are blacklisted in the southern line.
Had it not been Riek, will the southern stay in peace during those days of 2005 when the remorse circulated that some general had gone back to the Bhar elgazal regions because of some misunderstanding between Garang and the deputy. Isn’t Riek who mediated the process of the meetings between the Garang and his deputy. What would happen if Riek failed to mediate the two leaders. Are Nuer leaders still not good at this point. If that issue was between Nuer and Nuer, Dinka would been the fire setters who want the mess to continuous as they are doing today between Taban and Riek, but Nuer born son would not have done that for they are born not to hate, bot love.
Now come on, what happen when the two ministers had opposed Salva Kiir Mayardit and tried to preach something that Salva Kiir see as a war invitation. Come on Bor, you have to drop the politics of preaching war between Nuer. Rememeber, going back is not good either and staying in Southern states would not help unless we understand ourselves as Jinuubee who drop the last war issues.

Hold it, hold it guys, I don’t want to see it as Bor Nuer debate club, let’s treat it as national motion where everybody get his/her nose in.
Dr. Garang was very chrismatic intellegent leader, everybody knows that. Also Dr. Riek Machar is a very chrismatic skillful leader who don’t want to rush into things that send other people angry, all these leaders are ours and we have to be proud of all of them as God given gift for us.
However, God took Garang to heaven or somewhere, so all we can do is to pray for his soul for Jesus to welcome him into his Kingdom.
And for Dr. Riek Machar, we need to dignify him as our hero who fouhgt for our freedom, he left his houses in London to come and fight for our freedom, we have to respect him for his contribution, we don’t need to channel our decision to Dr. Garang who will not come back again and help us with our problems, he is dead like everybody else, we regret for his death and therefore, we have to turn our eyes to Dr. Riek and Gen. Salva Kiir who are still with us today.
Please brothers, stop being negative against each other, because all these leaders are ours and again we have to be proud of whatever credit they achieve for our current peace.
I hope everybody understand.
God bless.

What an idiot. A typical tribalist and a carrier of the most primitive brain. I don’t think you can call a butcher of human souls a “natonalist”; not unless you are blinded by tribalism as you have just portrayed. If at all there is a place called hell, you are already there. Riek is a politcal traitor and the most guilty of treason among the current crop of SPLA leadership in Southern Sudan. He knows it, all the Nuer folks know it and the whole world knows it. You will try to publicize your flip-flopping leader but in the minds of many Sudanese (you included), he will remain a soiled image. Shame on you and by the way, people like you should not be given a chance to publicize such utter nonsense. Welcome to the real world. It’s time you discover your crippled minds will never deceive. Revisiting the controversial SPLM “Walk-Out” from the Government of National Unity
Atem Mabior, SPLM Veterans for Truth in Diaspora, London
It is now more than one month plus since the expiry of the date line set by the SPLM for the resolution of the issues they thought were not being implemented. The SPLM Interim Political Bureau meeting in Juba last October 2007 had decided to withdraw its ministers in the Government of National Unity with immediate effect and to take undisclosed measures if the National Congress did not address and implement the following by the 9th of January 2008. These issues are:
? Withdrawal of SAF forces from the South
? Demarcation of the North/South border
? Funding of population census in the South
? Abiey Protocol
? Lack of transparency of oil sector management
? Democratic transformation and the rule of law
Now that the dateline has passed by almost two months can the SPLM leaders tell us what is the status of the implementation of the above issues which the SPLM leader Kiir claimed had triggered the “SPLM walk-out”?. On his return to Juba after a failed visit to the US, Kiir said “the decision that the SPLM Interim Political Bureau took to suspend our participation in the Government of National Unity was based on thorough and in-depth analysis and deliberations on our partnership with NCP”.
Really, Mr. President did you have a thorough and in-depth analysis of the issues? Why then have you and the “Garang boys” kept quiet after the reshuffle? Can you now honestly tell Southerners Mr President, what has happened to your infamous resolution or should we conclude, as others have all along said, that the “walk- out” was a ‘dishonest’ strategy to remove some comrades from the government of National Unity? What we now know is that the “hullaballo” which accompanied the infamous “hunger strike” by the SPLM has produced nothing new except perhaps for the acquisition of ministerial positions and withdrawal of SAF forces from the oil fields. These forces anyway were destined to be pulled out and were already on their way out except that the SPLA were slow in providing their component of the JIU force which was replacing the SAF. So it can not be counted as an achievement. For the rest of the issues nothing positive or more accurately, nothing in the interest of President Kiir and his allies the “Garang boys” has changed. Instead, their policies have created blood letting between the once peaceful neighbours, the Messirriya and Ngok Dinka. As for their claim of non transparency of oil revenue, the federal ministry of finance has published all monies released to GOSS since 2005 amounting to three billion dollars. We are wondering what the GOSS did with this money while there is barely any development. In January 2008 alone the GOSS received over $ 213 million dollars. Unfortunately though, workers in the South including the SPLA and other organised forces have not been paid since November 2007! The situation is a real pity and unless Southerners pray for Divine Intervention, things will go worst. Corruption has now become the emblem of GOSS and with inefficiency has become rewarding attributes. The only thing that few Southerners are not aware of is that Kiir himself is in the midst of this corruption cartel. Recently our sources in the Unity state have informed us that Governor Taban Deng has transported over one thousand cattle to Kiir’s luak in Akon as a gift from his state! This is apart from the millions of dollars that Taban gave to Kiir to maintain his position. Kiir bodyguards are spotted every month in Bentiu ostensibly to collect Kiir’s share from the state 2% of the oil revenue. Kiir is said to have a constant monthly share – a sort of a protection tax against the removal of Taban from the Governorship. Kiir has also opened up another corruption line and this is he transportation of IDPs to the south. We have learnt that in a recent meeting of SPLM Caucus in Khartoum Kiir exposed that he had released $ 24 million for the transportation of IDPS but that the money was “eaten”, and that this year he gave another $ 35 million to Deng Alor, the Foreign Minister for the same purpose but that the money disappeared again. Kiir, as usual then wandered what he could do a clear attempt to manipulate his audience into believing that he was innocent. Now as things stand, the IDPs are not going to be transported as planned and will miss the census date. Now the borders are not going to be demarcated and in May rains will obstruct the work of the borders demarcation team. Democratic transformation is not going on planned because the SPLM itself is not transforming into a democratic institution. It is even amazing that the SPLM should talk about democratic transformation when it is not leading the way. In the south now ministers, MPs and citizens are being beaten, imprisoned with out due process of law. President Kiir himself is violating the constitution by dismissing MPs, state ministers and commissioners. The SPLM under Kiir has failed and believe it. Whether you come from Warrap or Aweil or from Dinka Twic or from Jurchol where Kiir is highly suspected to have originated he has failed the south. For God sake, bring another candidate if you have one or otherwise let southerners find a more capable person to complete the journey.
