By Manyang Mayom

March 13, 2008 (RUMBEK) – The newly appointed states ministers and counties commissioners in the Lakes State were sworn in before the Governor Daniel Awet, on Saturday March 8.

The government of Southern Sudan (GOSS) has released out on Monday 3rd march 2008 a presidential decree No. 25/2008 of the President of Southern Sudan Government relieving three Lakes state ministers and two advisors.

All the newly appointed three ministers and three advisors including two counties commissioners were sworn in on Saturday before Lakes state government Lt.General Daniel Awet Akot in his office. The Lakes state created a new position of Gender and Social Welfare Advisor.

The newly appointed ministers and Advisors are:
– Mrs. Agad Chol Mabuong (SPLM), Minister of Information, Telecommunication, Culture, Youth and Sports. She replaced Mrs. Adak Costa Mapuor.
– Mr. Arkengelo Deng Kuok (NCP) Minister of Parliamentary Affairs instead of Mr. Isaac Kon Anok (SPLM).
– Mr. Chol Tong Mayay, Minister of Agriculture to replace Mr. Arkengelo Deng Kok.
– Mr. Apolo Madok Chol, Political Advisor, to replace Mr. Baipath Majuec Rilpou.
– Mr. Martin Anthiem Arier, Security Advisor to replace Mr. Richard Makur Athorbei.
– Mrs. Asunta Bawoda James, Gender and Social Welfare Advisor

In a speech during swearing in ceremony, governor Awet thanked the out going ministers, advisors and commissioners for the good work done in the past two years assuring ” They will be working with me in the state positions.”

However, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Mr. Arkengelo Deng Kuok rejected not to be sworn in on Saturday by Lakes state governor. He said that The Deputy Chairman of the National Congress Party (NCP) and Presidential Assistant, Nafi Ali Nafi had “instructed me to stand firm and to distance myself from swearing ceremony.”

The NCP in the Lakes was holder of the Ministry of Agriculture and Animals Resources. But the former NCP minister, Khamis Abdelatif Chawuol Lom had defected to the SPLM and resigned from his ministerial post in August 2007.

The NCP in Lakes state still claim that the position of Agriculture to be belonging to them although there is serious mess in term of financial and over employments in the ministry made by the former minister with his director general.
