Ruling party to visit rebel controlled areas in the southern Sudan
KHARTOUM, Mar 04, 2004 (Sudan Tribune) — The secretary general of the ruling National Congress, Ibrahim Ahmad Omar, has said the visit which the party will make to regions controlled by the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement will begin in the third week of the current month.
In a news statement, Omar said dialogue was going on with Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). “We are holding dialogue with Mohamed Osman al-Mirghani, in his capacity as the chairman of DUP and not as the Chairman of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)”.
He further added dialogue with the NDA which includes in its ranks a fighting group had stopped.
In another related development, Omar expressed his party’s readiness to hold dialogue with the National Ummah Party. He said the departure of its representatives from the preliminary committee for discussing war-torn Darfur, was an issue concerning the party and would not affect communications between the two parties.
