September 28, 2023 (JUBA) – The U.S embassy has strongly condemned the September 23 attack on a convoy of trucks returning from delivering aid to children and families in South Sudan’s Central Equatoria State.

Two drivers were killed and a third one injured when trucks were delivering items procured by the UN children fund (UNICEF) were attacked in Yei River County.

Also destroyed, UNICEF said on Sunday, were critical humanitarian resources.

“We offer our condolences to the families of the victims,” the US embassy said.

It added, “We again call on the transitional government to meet its responsibility to establish conditions that ensure the safe provision of humanitarian assistance”.

The acting humanitarian coordinator in South Sudan, Mary-Ellen McGroarty also called for protection of those who provide vital assistance to the most vulnerable.

“The killing of those who deliver support to save lives is unacceptable,” she noted.

Aid workers in South Sudan, face violence, threats and lootings while trying to reach people in need.

The country is reportedly the most dangerous place for aid workers in the world.
