November 12, 2023 (JUBA) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir and the Chairman of the Sovereign Council of Sudan, Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan on Saturday held talks on the ongoing efforts to restore peace in Sudan.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Saudi-Africa summit in Riyadh.

This was the second face-to-face meeting between the two leaders since a  violent conflict erupted in Sudan’s capital, Khartoum between the paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF)  and the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) on April 15.

The conflict forced Al-Burhan and most of the deputies in the transitional council to relocate the administrative headquarters to Sudan port at the Red Sea coast.

South Sudan’s Foreign Affairs minister, James Pitia Mogan said talks between Kiir and Al-Burhan mainly focused on how to resolve Sudan’s ongoing conflict.

He further revealed that Kiir will soon host meetings with Sudanese political leaders and the current warring parties to review the situation in the country..

The South Sudanese leader had earlier met Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto, Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki and the Djibouti President, Ismail Omar Guelleh who jointly expressed their full support for his peace efforts in Sudan.
