Sudan president is the greatest African leader: Official

August 3, 2008 (UNITED NATIONS) – Sudan’s envoy to the UN Abdel-Haleem Abdel-Mahmood again criticized the move by the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to indict President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir.

“We regret that they are accusing one of the greatest leaders in the African continent who had the honor of achieving peace in Sudan and ending the longest civil war in Africa” Abdel-Mahmood told reporters at the UN headquarters.

The ICC’s prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo asked pre-trial judges in mid-July to issue arrest warrants for Al-Bashir.

Ocampo filed 10 charges: three counts of genocide, five of crimes against humanity and two of murder. Judges are expected to take months to study the evidence before deciding whether to order Al-Bashir’s arrest.

But the African Union, Arab League, Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) called for invoking Article 16 which allows the UNSC to suspend the ICC prosecutions in any case for a period of 12 months that can be renewed indefinitely.

The Sudanese diplomat said that the UN Security Council (UNSC) must not wait for the judges to make a decision before deciding to suspend the indictment.

“People should not wait for what the judges decide. Any delay is catastrophic and no one will be immune from its dangerous consequences” he said.

“We want something quick to bypass this and put the peace process on the right track” he added.

Last week China’s UN envoy Wang Guangya hinted that they may very soon introduce a resolution on deferring ICC indictment of Al-Bashir.

“China supports the reasonable request by the African Union and other organizations for the Council to take early action to suspend the indictment of the Sudanese leader by the ICC, in accordance with the relevant provisions” he added.

But any such resolution introduced appears to have little chances of surviving a vote in the UNSC particularly with the veto wielding members such as US, UK and France opposing it.

Some UNSC members contended that the support of many regional organizations to invoking Article 16 means that two-third of the world are behind it and that ignoring that is a “sign of disrespect” by the council.

However the UK ambassador at the UN John Sawers said that a resolution on this “is based on the decision making process of the UNSC”.

“I don’t hear other delegations appealing to majorities of member states on other issues. We all know the rules of how the UNSC takes its decisions” Sawers said.

Some Western countries including UK and France have hinted that for the UNSC to consider deferring Al-Bashir’s indictment they must cooperate with the ICC and hand over two suspects

The judges of the ICC issued their first arrest warrants for suspects accused of war crimes in Sudan’s Darfur region a year ago.

The warrants were issued for Ahmed Haroun, state minister for humanitarian affairs, and militia commander Ali Mohamed Ali Abdel-Rahman, also know as Ali Kushayb. Sudan has so far rejected handing over the two suspects.

But Abdel-Mahmood rejected the request describing it as an “unacceptable blackmailing”.

“We are not prepared to hand over any of our citizens to any party for trial. We are not party to the Rome Statue and it cannot be forced upon us….The ICC reflects the fake Western justice that we do not recognize and we will not deal with it under any circumstances ” he added.

Sudan has not ratified the Rome Statue, but the UNSC triggered the provisions under the Statue that enables it to refer situations in non-State parties to the world court if it deems that it is a threat to international peace and security.

He is one of the greatest leaders in Africa, he managed to bring Sudan back from the brink of total collapse that Saddique Al Mahdi brought it to. He offered the SPLM countless numbers of times for a peaceful resolution to the conflict yet the hard headed dinka henchmen refused.

He helped Sudan to become one of the fastest growing economies in the Planet and he gave the southerners (though I completely disagree) 50% of oil wealth even though their demographics DO NOT match that amount.

All in all Bashir is our president and will continue to do so, the southerners idea of a new sudan will never happen, Muslims actually stick to their religion not unlike the secular pleading southerners.

Beshir is not the greatest African leader, instead, he is a thug and destructive tool of Sudan. His government lives on chances while being protected by smoking guns.
Beshir did not end the civil war in South Sudan. The Americans did it. Bringing Beshir to The Hague, I believe, will mark the end of suffering of Sudanese people and the beginning of the new peaceful Sudan as it will pave the way to bring the rest of his cabinet to justice. They are part of the 51 figures charged with genocide in Darfur and by issuing them with arrest warants the ruling thugs in Khartoum will be forced to perish and their government to collapse . In such a case, I think that the West and its allies should ensure the well-being of CPA and The Hague should look into atrocities commited in South Sudan during the Rule of Jafar Numairi, Sadique Mahdi and Omar Beshir.

Yes, Al Bashir , is the greatest homo, human kind have every witness beside Prophet Mohammed ,peace of the Satan be upon him. That lunatic Bashir is a gay from head to toe that is why he is childless, like former lunatic Nimer .His sexual organs don’t function, he has been sexual abuse as child and that is normal norms in Islam. The fake prophet Mohammed was well known for homosexuality. Therefore the right title is “Sudan President is the greatest African Gay and a criminal”

My God, a janjanweed becomes a great leader in African. I think the guy rivals Mandela, or even better.
My friend, war criminals can never become great leaders. Any evil person like Bashir can come to power through the backdoor and that alone cannot make them great leaders. If he brought peace to Sudan, what happened in Darfur? Know one thing, your evil leader will go down in history as a war criminal.
