February 21, 2024 (NAIROBI) – Kenya’s President William Ruto on Wednesday received a special message from his South Sudanese counterpart, Salva Kiir.

South Sudan’s special envoy, Albino Mathom Ayuel Aboug delivered President Kiir’s message to the Kenyan leader at State House in Nairobi, Kenya.

Ruto said Kenya shares a cordial and robust relationship with South Sudan.

“As East African Community member states, the two countries are critical partners in our goal for peace, security, economic growth and prosperity of our people,” he said.

The Kenyan leader also received another special message from this Burundian counterpart, Evariste Ndayishimiye through Lt-General Silas Ntigurirwa.

Also present, a statement from the Kenyan leader said, were Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary, Korir Sing’Oei, National Security Advisor Monica Juma and Kenya’s special envoy on the Great Lakes Region Charles Keter.

In December last year, President Kiir, through the Minister of Presidential Affairs Bangasi Joseph Bakasoro, asked the Kenyan President to mediate between the government and the non-signatories to the September 2018 peace agreement.

The Rome-based Sant’Egidio Community, adjourned the peace talks between the transitional government and the non-signatories South Sudanese opposition groups after they disagreed on the agenda of the peace talks in March 2023.
