South Sudan cabinet passes youth development policy
June 1, 2024 (JUBA) – South Sudan’s Council of Ministers has passed the National Youth Development Policy to be presented to the Reconstituted Transitional National Legislative Assembly (R-TNLA) for deliberation prior to its adoption.
The youth policy was presented by the country’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Joseph Geng Akech during a sitting chaired by President Salva Kiir on May 31.
“We are glad to announce that the Council of Ministers meeting chaired by H.E the President of the Republic passed the National Youth Development Policy earlier today”, he said.
Akech described the national youth policy as a key document for government.
It seeks to empower young people with potential in various aspects of life, he said.
The youth policy encompasses certain key aspects, including the definition of youth as anyone from the ages of 15-35; promotion of national youth service and voluntarism; entrepreneurial up scaling and sports activities, among other issues.
Meanwhile the minister lauded the passing of the youth development policy.
He vowed to ensure it is presented to the parliament for its eventual adoption.
Since his ministerial appointment, Akech has been praised for his hard work and dedication. He is accredited for his exceptional leadership skills, which resulted in the peaceful election of South Sudan Basketball Association (SSBA) President, Luol Deng.
