Salva Kiir inaugrates South Sudan Stats House in Rumbek

October 6, 2008 (RUMBEK) — GoSS President Salva Kiir Mayadrit has inaugurated in Rumbek the Southern Sudan Statics House which will collect and process all statistics and information about the semi-autonomous region.

037.jpgThe Southern Sudan Commission for Census, Statistics and Evaluation (SSCCSE) Data Processing and inspection Building is built as a result of combined efforts by GoSS, UNFPA and MDTF.

In a speech delivered following the inauguration, Salav Kiir congratulated the SSCCSE for that great achievement, and also he congratulated the government of Lakes State for accumulating the house. He also sent a special thank to the young men who are running the institution to meet expectation of the Southern Sudan citizens.

The chairperson of the Southern Sudan Statistics and Evaluation Commission Isaiah Chol said the Statistic House is built in Rumbek to show that Rumbek town has position in the history of the struggle.

He called on all the public to be patient and wait for a full result of the population census, and urged the citizens not to be misled by some of the News papers in Khartoum.

Last July some newspapers published in Khartoum said that the population of the 10 Southern states added up to 3.8 million or 10% of the Sudanese population. However the central bureau of statistics denied these figures saying no numbers has been released yet.

The Southern Sudan President will spend the night in Rumbek where he is expected to tackle during his second day of visit the political crisis in the state.

Lakes State Governor Daniel Awet Akot called on all the citizens of the State to abandon hostility and live in peace and tranquillity.

Kiir was accompanied by a high level delegation which includes minister of presidential affairs, minister of interior, minister of legal affairs and constitutional development, minister of regional and international cooperation and members of the southern Sudan parliament .
