The Yoke of Bondage is Finally Broken in USA

By Tethloach Domach Ruey

Novemeber 7, 2008 — On 4 November 2008, eyes were in tears, tears of joy, joy of the long awaited freedom. Good global citizens from various backgrounds were in tears. However, the pain of that day heavily fell on the heart of the black race in remembering the history that will haunts America for ages.

Americans changed this world but until on 4 November 2008, they did not prove it to the world that they have changed themselves. They freed a good number of world citizens from bondage but they did not throw off their yoke. How could one be the chief international advocate of freedom and at the same time the chief oppressor of his citizens? This is a mystery of human nature. Such shame has convicted good American citizens who on 4 November 2008 have decided to reinstate the human value removed centuries ago. The verdict was the election of Sen. Barack Obama as the President of the United States of America (USA). This is a clear message that the USA of the 21st century is different from that of the past centuries. In that manner, the yoke of bondage is finally broken in the United States. This is only the beginning of the change. For this, history will remember those good Americans who have re-created the American history.

The black community should no longer lives in a state of psychological isolation. The war is over. It is important to understand that what still makes the USA the only super-power is its economic power transformed into a military power. And it was the black race in slavery that built the foundation of the modern American economic power. So blacks should be very proud of this fact.

What else, President Obama must knows that he is also a President of the world not just the President of the USA. What does this means? The entire world has been roaring for eight years under the incumbent Republican President whose doctrine has polarised the world than expected. Who will reunite the world from such major political and ideological drifts?

As we may all know, USA is a great actor in the ugliness and beauty of this world. It is therefore a heavy load for President Obama to repair the global relations George W. Bush has distorted. All eyes are on President Obama. This makes him a global President. However, this does not mean that President Obama should play a neutral role in international relations. International politics is a management of complexities. He must give carrots to them that need carrots and sticks to them that need sticks. In short, he must be just if he wants to repair the US image. Generally, President Obama should always remember the hope the world has in him from the ordinary citizens up to the top leaders.
