Sudan to utilize South Sudan corridor for aid delivery to South Kordofan

October 25, 2024 (PORT SUDAN) – Sudan is establishing a humanitarian corridor through South Sudan to facilitate aid delivery to communities impacted by conflict in South Kordofan.

A delegation from Sudan’s Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) is currently in Juba, coordinating with South Sudanese authorities to finalize operational details.

“This corridor is a vital lifeline for reaching vulnerable populations in South Kordofan,” said HAC Commissioner Salwa Adam Bunia. “We are pursuing every possible avenue to ensure humanitarian access.”

This initiative expands on existing aid delivery efforts within Sudan. The HAC dispatched over 45 aid trucks from Port Sudan, bound for Kassala, Gedaref, Khartoum, River Nile, and Northern states. The commission is also preparing to launch air bridges to Kadugli and Dilling in the coming days.

Commissioner Bunia reaffirmed Sudan’s commitment to facilitating humanitarian access, upholding pledges at the Jeddah platform and other international forums.

“We appreciate the collaboration with South Sudan and the support of our international partners,” she said. “Our focus remains on reaching all citizens in need.”
