“The U.S. Embassy will be closed on January 8 as city-wide demonstrations against Israeli operations in Gaza are expected throughout Khartoum” the statement read.

The embassy further said that some Sudanese in the last few days have called for attacks on Westerners living in Khartoum.

“During demonstrations in recent days near the US embassy and elsewhere in Khartoum, some speakers have made threats against US and other Western citizens in Sudan” the embassy said.

At least one speaker at a rally outside the embassy on Monday read out read out a list of places and neighborhoods where Westerners are known to gather, the embassy said.

The United States advised its staff to stay away from O-Zone cafe last October, saying it had evidence a group called “Al Qaeda in the Land of the Two Niles” had threatened U.S. citizens.

Newspapers in Khartoum reported that the embassy heightened security measures and barrier around its perimeter.

A year ago the US Agency for International Development (USAID), and his 40-year-old Sudanese driver Abdel-Rahman Abbas were hit in their car by a hail of bullets before dawn on 2008 New Year’s Day.

Western diplomats in the Sudanese capital are bracing for further demonstrations should the International Criminal Court (ICC) issue an arrest warrant for Sudanese president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir.

The ICC prosecutor in mid-July formally accused Al-Bashir of masterminding a campaign to get rid of the African tribes in Darfur; Fur, Masalit and Zaghawa.

The ICC judges returned from a month long judicial recess on Monday and are expected to make a ruling before the end the month on the charges that include genocide, crimes against humanity and murder.

This is bulshit, the government in Khartoum “must”be stupid to call the citizens of this country to demonstrated against the current fighting in Gaza, when they suppose to prepared and wait for Beshir indictment,am totally against that demonstration taking place in Khartoum, and it shows that being muslim and supporting the Arab government is stupid idealogy this statement goes to my dear comrades in S.Sudan.
Where on earth will people demonstrated for another country’s problem because they are from the same religion?
How about our brothers in Darfur? I never heard of demonstration in Khartoum because of Darfur’s problem,if its because of muslimhood they were also muslimize by the same jalaba,I doubt your support and am sure your just showing youself to the Arab world to seek help from them by your court case.

I urge EGYPT must intervane into North SUDAN to prevent Hezbollah initiatives inspired Hamas group into Northern Sudan. Just as Ethiopia did into Somalia… Another words, ISRAEL is not fighting for Palestinian peoples, again: this battle is the battle against NORTHERN ENEMY of JERUSALEM, includes, IRAN, LEBANON & SYRIAN Terrorists from Damascus, and IRANIAN inspired terrorist group called HAMAS…
The Hamas doesn’t care about Palestinian civillian casualty.
The Khartoum shouldn’t touch this battle unless “if you know very well”, because it will trigger against SOUTH. (of Jerusalem)
    Think!
*Why Iranians are not welcome into North Eastern Africa?
    Includes Khartoum, Egypt, and Libya…
*Why Iranians are in Sierra Leone, and various parts of West Africa, includes Ghana, Nigeria, and Cameroon?
    ANSWER!
Because those of Lebanese and Syrians are in those slave Gold Coast after Europeans and Iranians are the puppets of Syrians, which means they are also slaves of Damascus, Syria.
