October 19, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan’s Security and Defence Council directed relevant authorities on Monday to take necessary measures to counter plots targeting the country and to alleviate citizens’ suffering.

The council held its regular meeting, chaired by the head of the Transitional Sovereign Council and army commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, coinciding with a series of drone strikes targeting various areas in the capital, Khartoum.

The meeting comes as economic conditions in Sudan grow increasingly complex, driven by the rapid depreciation of the national currency against foreign currencies, particularly the U.S. dollar.

Citizens also continue to struggle to obtain fuel amid mounting living costs.

At the start of its deliberations, the council mourned the unarmed civilian martyrs of the “Battle of Dignity” across the country, who were targeted by enemy drones.

“The council directed the competent authorities, each in their respective field, to take measures to thwart the plots and relieve the suffering of the citizens,” said Defence Minister Lt. Gen. Hassan Daoud Kabroun, the council’s rapporteur.

He noted that the meeting reviewed the overall security situation amid increasing targeting and threats.

The council reassured the Sudanese people that the relevant authorities’ measures are sufficient to foil these plots.

Kabroun added that the meeting also addressed economic conditions, their security implications, securing people’s livelihoods, and protecting human rights.

The council praised the people’s stance in defending the country and emphasized ensuring the rule of law while facilitating the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need.
