Sudan cabinet hails Kiir stance on ICC move against Bashir
January 14, 2009 (KHARTOUM) — The Sudanese First Vice President Salva Kiir presided over the weekly cabinet meeting in which he briefed them on his latest visit to the US earlier this month.
Kiir took the place of president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir who is travelling to Qatar to attend the emergency Arab League summit to discuss the Israeli offensive on Gaza strip.
Sudan official news agency (SUNA) said the cabinet lauded Kiir’s “dedicated effort to stop any decision by the International Criminal Court (ICC) to charge the president considering a call from its prosecutor to create instability and chaos and stop development efforts”.
ICC judges are reviewing ten counts presented by prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo in mid-July that include three counts of genocide, five of crimes against humanity and two of murder and accused Al-Bashir of masterminding a campaign to get rid of the African tribes in Darfur; Fur, Masalit and Zaghawa.
A decision is expected by the judges in the coming weeks, observers say.
SUNA quoted Kiir as telling the cabinet that he informed the US president George Bush and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon that the move by the ICC prosecutor “will impede implementation of North-South peace agreement, elections process, democratic transformation as well as complicating political, security and economic situation in the country”.
Last weekend Kiir made his strongest public statements against the ICC saying it could unravel the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) signed between the North and South in 2005.
The semi-autonomous South Sudan has previously called on the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) to deal with the ICC legally but Kiir’s latest remarks signaled a shift in position.
“Let’s assume that the NCP [ruling party] said that our president now stand accused so we are not obliged with the agreement [CPA]. What will the situation in Sudan be like? People will revert back to war because anything that happens to the CPA will suspend the constitution that represents the agreement in itself” he said.
“What about the outstanding items in the peace agreement? Will they be implemented afterwards? Will we have a referendum in 2011? These are urgent questions that everyone should pay attention to” he added.
The South Sudan president said that US officials turned down his plea for intervention in stalling the ICC move telling him that “they have influence” over The Hague based court.
Kiir further disclosed that declined to meet a delegation of Darfur Justice and Equality (JEM) Movement in Washington and told them he will only meet them inside Sudan.
The CPA signed on January 2005, ended more than two decades war that left 2 million dead. The deal created a national unity government, and another semi-autonomous government for the ten states of southern Sudan. It also organizes a democratic transition in the country through general elections in 2009, and allows southern Sudan to vote for self-determination in 2011.

Hi Mr Kiir
Please don,t remind your enemy about what will put the CPA in danger, Bashir have to go to ICC and Osman Mohamed Taha will take over. so nothing will bring CPA down because CPA was signed between NCP as political force and SPLM for the peaceful co-existence of Sudanese people but not Bashir and you [Kiir]only. when Dr. John Garang died CPA was kept alive till we reach this period because of his followers including you [Kiir]. i think we should not be scared or threat by NCP to throw CPA through window when Bashir is arrested, this is not true and i wanted you Mr. Kiir to take firm position against any move that will bridge the comprehensive agreement.
Grader
QUESTION?
How is Bashir going to be arrested and who is going to implement that?
A food for thought …….

What is this Comprehensive Peace Agreement that has to be protected so carefully by General Kiir?
Is it the agreement over Abyei? Abyei has been burned twice. El-Beshir broke his word on this agreement and it goes to be settled in the Hague Court.
Is it the census and elections? The head of the census has published figures that will be used to rob the south of oil share and seats in Parliament?
Is the CPA a trick to give the north time to use southern oil to buy Russian jet planes ?
If the ICC warrant had not happened Kiir would even now beg Beshir to keep his promise on the CPA and Beshir would even now trick his way out of it.
Beshir has created all these problems for himself. Let him save himself.
General Kiir – you need to wake the south.

Getbentiu you knew nothing about politics, president can step down for the sake of the people not just president without people or kill people under his authority or if it is not that fucken president who came up by coup. the ICC law cannot set any suspect of human crimes free unless he/she face the trial for atrocities he committed. Bashir is responsible for all suffering of innocent people in Sudan.

General Kiir should not flatter the Jalaba anymore! The days of flattering them are long gone!
We must work to see into it that the South is independent while the North is left with total freedom for our brothers and sisters in Northern Sudan. Part of it is by handing over Bashir to ICC.

It is now clear that our southern leaders are feeling the under shoulder pressure which could simply be handle by the human right activist.
We the citizens of this country never felt that circulating pressure because if have to allow it, therefore it’ll depict that we are betraying or not giving a chance to those human right researchers.
Without a single doubt, a trapped rope would not catch an innocent leader of down under if he dose not inflict his judgement besides the International Catch Criminals. Since the researchers never asked our position. It was fair when the down under Leader revealed his takes on the issue and stressing it out that “no one would fuelled another fire arms against the two sides” When we the listeners and the right citizens heard that, we were almost driven into our normal respective cage. To be frank, we thought that the “no war” slogan was an enough offer.
So, what happen today? Are we sort of people whom the world judged our wide righteous with our wounded hands on it? The hands I believed so far to have been bandaged.

Leaders come and leades go.The CPA was an agreement between NCP and SPLM.IF one leader goes as was in the case of John Garang the CPA went on and did not die along side Garang who made it all work. Do not shake stand firm and see what the ICC will do. Sudan will remain intact but the leaders can go any time and be replaced by new leaders. we stand by the law.Liberia is still exisiting and former yugoslavia is still existing by different name so let be it.

I think kiir is sending a wrong signal to those who want to sabotage the CPA. If Bashir dies today, dose that mean the end of the function of the government in Sudan? I do not think that because regimes come and go. Hence people in high positions of government will not commit terrible crimes and then threaten to cause choas. Indeed, there is no subtitute for justice at all and those who violate the role of the government by using the state to presecute innocent people will not go unpunish.
