Sudan Policemen attack house of southern figure in Khartoum

By Manyang Mayom

January 17, 2009 (KHARTOUM) – A Sudanese security force last Thursday attacked the house of a dissident member of the National Congress Party (NCP) Dhieu Mathok Ding Wol who joined to the SPLM. During the war period, Dhieu was well-known as chief of Greater Bhar-EL-Gazal in Khartoum.

The security agents attacked my house at 11:30am on Thursday midnight and beat the member of my family, my seven children and my beloved wife Sedia Issa” said Ding Wol who defected from the NCP on May 26, 2007 and joined the Sudan people liberation Movement (SPLM).

The member of the SPLM National Liberation council (NLC), who lives in the suburb of Kalakala, Khartoum, told the Sudan Tribune by phone that the well armed force arrived, during his absence, to his home in seven vehicles. He claimed that they destroyed everything in the house including the car.

The Sudanese authorities released Dhieu family without charges on Friday after their arbitrary arrest on Thursday. They spent 11 hours in custody.

The Arabic language press in Khartoum reported that the security force raided Mathok’s house after police receiving several complaints that he and others allegedly committed crimes of kidnappings, illegal detention, and extortion.

But he dismissed the charges saying they are false and fabricated.

Mathok stressed that a journalist belonging to Ajras Al-Hurriya, pro-SPLM newspaper, visited my house to witness the destruction made by the police but when the journalist returned to the newspaper office to publish the story, the National intelligence and Security Services (NISS) denied the publication of the true story and just allowed a fake story which makes no sense”.

“I’m going to file a case against police for assault immediately on Monday without failure. There is now a lot of negotiation since they have all injured my innocent children with my wife”.

He further wondered why this unjustified aggression on his house and family. He added that he didn’t commit any infraction to the law or make any hostile statement against the federal government.

“I do not know what caused such attack to destroy and cause injuries to my families” he voiced.

According to the SPLM official, the security force also followed him to the hospital where the severally injured members of my families were admitted, to advice medical practitioners to release them without report on their conditions, he stressed.

He also added that the same security team attacked a house belonging to Abraham Akot Autiak in the same area. He was a former minister of Agriculture in the State of Northern Bahr-El-Ghazal on NCP ticket before joining SPLM in March 2007.

Both, Mathok and Autiak were senior members of the National Congress Party before joining SPLM with a group of about thirty five members of the National Congress Party.

However, the recent arrest of the leader of popular Congress Party, Abdullah Hassan El Turabi, a person believed to be a close friend to Dhieu’s, over a call on President Basher to assume his political responsibility on Darfur war crimes to defend himself at the International Criminal Court (ICC), added more suspicions as security elements filled the city hunting anybody believed to still have any political association with Turabi. Mathok said that the SPLM is not supporting the move of ICC to arrested president Omer Al-Bashir.

Perhaps you received their money in the past to kill and betray your brothers in the SPLM, but you have not done what they want you to do. Those who lived a double life may not wonder now when they are attacked because they are receiving the last portion of their pay. What surprises the rest of us is what you wait for in Khartoum. You need to come home and build your house there for your children instead of waiting for humiliation. You suggest that you want to file a court case, who told you that there is justice in Khartoum? You guys live under fake illusions.
