UNAMID’s Adada meets with visiting Japanese delegation

February12, 2009 (KHARTOUM) – The head of the Joint African Union and United Nations peacekeeping mission in Darfur met today in Khartoum with the Japanese envoy for peace building in Africa to do discuss peace efforts in western Sudan.

The AU-UN Joint Special Representative for Darfur, Rodolphe Adada briefed Keitaro Sato, Japan’s ambassador in charge of peace –building in Africa, on the the current status of UNAMID deployment, the latest developments on the ground as well the ongoing Darfur-Darfur Dialogue and Consultation of which Japan is a key contributor.

Sato expressed his country’s commitment to support recovery and development in Darfur once a comprehensive peace is achieved

The visiting envoy headed the Japanese delegation to the Doha where they attended the opening session of talks between Sudanese government and the Justice and Equality Movement.

The meeting was attended by the Japanese ambassador to Sudan Yuichi Ishii.
