One engineer killed in drone attack on Bashayer oil station
November 15, 2025 (AL-JABALAIN) – The Bashayer oil processing station in Al-Jabalain, White Nile State, southern Sudan, was attacked by a drone on Saturday, killing at least one engineer and damaging the site.
The central processing facility, located in the town of Al-Makhalif in the Al-Jabalain locality, processes South Sudan’s oil and transports it via pipelines to the country’s eastern export port.
Sources told Sudan Tribune that “the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeted the Bashayer oil processing station in Al-Jabalain with a drone.”
They reported that the attack killed one engineer, injured others, and destroyed parts of the station.
The Ministry of Energy and Oil has not commented on the attack on the state-owned company. Meanwhile, activists on social media circulated a letter from Mohamed Awad, Director of the Bashayer Pipeline Company, to Mohieldin Naeem, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil, and to Ling Zongfa, President of the South Sudan Oil Company.
The letter, which included a notification to shut down the Bashayer company’s pipeline, stated that the central processing facility in Al-Jabalain and the power station had been attacked. This required taking additional measures, including activating the emergency centre and immediately initiating the emergency shutdown procedure to protect the facilities of the Bashayer Company and the South Sudan Oil Company.
It called on the South Sudan Oil Company to take the necessary measures given the seriousness of the situation, noting that the Bashayer company will work in coordination with it to ensure the shutdown process is implemented safely.
The attack on the Al-Jabalain station comes two days after a similar shelling of the Heglig oil field in South Kordofan state, which killed at least three people and injured others.
The shelling on Heglig on Thursday is considered the third of its kind within a month. The field contains about 70 wells producing 20,000 barrels per day and also houses the central processing facility for South Sudan’s oil.
Last September, Sudan was forced to reduce the number of workers at the Heglig field after a drone attack damaged the area’s airport, fearing that repeated attacks would destroy the operational infrastructure in the long term.
