RSF drones attack power station, military bases in northern Sudan’s Shendi
October 30, 2026 (SHENDI) – Rapid Support Forces drones bombed army bases and a transformer power station in the northern Sudanese city of Shendi on Friday.
The strike in River Nile state is part of a series of attacks targeting power stations and fuel reserves.
The Shendi locality security committee said in a statement that the transformer power station was completely out of service after morning drone strikes destroyed its transformers.
While inspecting the damage, the committee reported that the drones also struck a reserve fuel depot belonging to Nile Petroleum and an air defence building.
In less than two weeks, RSF suicide and strategic drones have targeted 11 power and fuel stations across at least seven states.
The Sudanese government accused Ethiopia of involvement, saying the drones were launched from Ethiopian territory.
Local sources told Sudan Tribune that drones attacked Shendi, about 160 km north of the capital Khartoum, at around 2:40 a.m. on Friday.
The sources said the attack ignited a fire at the transformer station and caused widespread power outages in Shendi and its suburbs.
Several explosions were heard during the attack.
RSF drones also targeted military facilities in the city, including the army’s 3rd Infantry Division headquarters and a fuel depot.
The army’s ground defences intercepted the suicide drones and thwarted the attack, the sources added.
The incident follows an RSF drone attack on Thursday morning on Um Dabaker, the country’s largest thermal power station, in Rabak, White Nile state.
That strike damaged four transformers and a processing unit, knocking the facility out of service.
