Sudanese army repels attack near South Sudan border

February 7, 2026 (ED DAMAZIN) – Sudan’s army said on Saturday it had repelled a new attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the town of Al Selik in the Blue Nile region, near the border with South Sudan.

On January 26, the army reclaimed Al Selik and Malakan in Bau County from an alliance of the RSF and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), one day after the groups had seized them. The army reported that those alliance forces had launched their offensive from within South Sudanese territory.

The Fourth Infantry Division, the army’s regional base in Blue Nile, said in a statement that its forces “valiantly and capably repelled a violent attack launched by the terrorist RSF militia on the Al Selik area in southeastern Sudan.”

The military said government forces thwarted the attack and drove back the strikers, inflicting heavy losses in personnel and equipment.

The command described the engagement as a “heroic epic” that demonstrated high readiness and a solid fighting spirit within the Fourth Infantry Division. The division added that this spirit has served as an “impenetrable barrier” against attempts to destabilize the region’s security.

“Your brave forces, led by the Fourth Infantry Division, will remain a symbol of steadfastness and sacrifice, and an unbreakable fortress for the homeland, until security is achieved and the forces of evil and aggression are defeated,” the statement said.

The RSF and the SPLM are attempting to open a new front in Blue Nile, having launched an attack on three locations in Kurmuk County on February 3.

Last June, the Sudanese army pushed the RSF and its allies out of several areas in Blue Nile. Following those operations, the paramilitary forces withdrew to areas along the border with Ethiopia and South Sudan.
