Sudan accuses ICC prosecutor of attempting to split Arabs
June 12, 2009 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese government accused the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo of seeking to divide the Arab position.
The spokesperson of the Sudanese foreign ministry Ali Al-Sadiq quoted Ocampo as making press statements saying that some Arab countries expressed readiness to cooperate.
The ICC issued an arrest warrant for Sudanese president Omer Hassan Al-Bashir last March in connection with crimes allegedly committed in the Western region of Darfur.
The Arab League issued a resolution saying the warrant is a violation of international and stated that its members will not cooperate with the court.
Jordan, Djibouti and Comoros Island are the only states that have ratified the Rome Statute, which is the founding text of the ICC. They are therefore legally bound to cooperate with the court.
Al-Sadiq said that “only one Arab state has signed the [Rome] treaty” adding that Ocampo wants to sabotage relations between Sudan and its Arab peers.
He also affirmed the government’s keenness on prosecuting those allegedly involved in the Darfur war crimes.
Djibouti and Comoros Island have suggested that they will not honor their obligations under the Rome Statute but Jordan said it respects the treaty it signed.
The ICC prosecutor has revealed to Sudan Tribune last year that Saudi Arabia was been made aware of a plan to diver a plan carrying Sudan state minister for humanitarian affairs Ahmed Haroun on his way to perform the annual pilgrimage rituals.
Sudan’s envoy at the UN described Ocampo as a terrorist and said it was especially infuriating that other countries were willing to help the ICC in the failed operation.
The ICC has no police force so they have to rely on the member states to execute any arrest warrants.

Dear Sudanese Envoy to the UN, who is a terrorist? is it Moreno-Ocampo who is saving the innocent people or Bashir who is killing his own people? We should be sensitive to the nation not the interest of an individual.

If the Sudanese government want defends it’s self then it should look for the defendnce ways that will let them out of this facts but it dosen’t work this way.Because Mr Ocampo had a pproven evidance in his hands so Mr Al-sadiq please seek for other reasons to help you arrest Mr Louis Ocampo because this is not the reason and is not strong because he is dividing the Arabs is not your concern
