Sudanese and Emirati civil avaion authorities agree to liberalize air traffic

June 13, 2009 (KHARTOUM) – Sudanese and Emirati civil aviation authorities signed an “open” Air Services Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Totana Hotel Khartoum on Thursday.
The signed agreement stipulates that no restriction on the number of flights between the two countries whether le aircrafts are owned or leased, transporting passengers or cargo.

The deal comes as part of the implementation of the liberalization of air traffic between the Arab countries agreement which was signed in Damascus in 2004.

International air transport is governed by the principle of national sovereignty, and this places legal restrictions on air traffic. To remove these restrictions, liberalization involves establishing a number of ‘freedoms’ as defined in international Air Services Agreements.

The agreement was signed by Mr. Seif Mohamed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the Emirati civilian authority and Eng. Mohamed Abdel Aziz Ahmed, Director General of Sudan Civil Aviation Authority. Representatives from Abu Dhabi Department of Transport, Dubai Civil Aviation, Sharjah Civil Aviation, Emirates airline, Etihad Airways and Air Arabia attended the negotiations.
