Sudanese army repels drone attack in South Kordofan, RSF raid kills five near El Obeid

August 7, 2026 (DILING) – The Sudanese army repelled a drone attack by the Rapid Support Forces on the town of Diling in South Kordofan State on Friday, military sources said, while five civilians were killed during an RSF raid on a village near El Obeid.

Neighbourhoods in Diling came under artillery fire on Thursday without casualties before RSF forces launched drones against the town on Friday morning, according to military sources.

Ground defences from the army’s 54th Brigade shot down an RSF kamikaze drone targeting advanced defence positions on the outskirts of the town, the sources said.

For months, an alliance of the RSF and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North faction led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu has targeted Diling, the second-largest city in South Kordofan, using artillery and drones.

In neighbouring North Kordofan State, RSF fighters on motorcycles attacked the village of Al-Tamid, south of the state capital El Obeid, on Thursday in an attempt to loot livestock, an army source said.

Five villagers were killed, and several others were wounded when residents resisted the raid, prompting RSF fighters to open fire, according to the source. The injured were taken to El Obeid Hospital on Friday.

The village lies near Kazgail, an area under RSF control.
