Drone debris kills one, injures nine in Sudan’s Omdurman

September 10, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – At least one person was killed, and nine others were wounded on Thursday when falling debris from suspected Rapid Support Forces (RSF) drones struck residential neighbourhoods in northern and western Omdurman, medics and local residents said.

Loud blasts rocked Khartoum State in the early morning hours, centring around the Sarkab military camp in the northern Karari district and several locations across western Omdurman.

“Our air defences engaged the militia’s drones that attempted to target areas in northern Omdurman and shot them all down without them achieving their objectives,” a military source told Agence France-Presse (AFP).

Medical workers at Al-Nao Hospital said they received the body of one victim and treated eight injured people after an explosive drone came down in the Al-Qarya quarter of the Al-Fateh 1 neighbourhood, in far north Omdurman.

Witnesses said shrapnel caused total or partial damage to about four residential buildings in Al-Qarya.

In western Omdurman, local residents said another drone crashed into a home in Block 12 of the Dar es Salaam district, critically injuring a woman and levelling two houses.

Most returning residents across Khartoum State have settled in Omdurman, with the capital city itself heavily scarred and devastated by fighting between the army and the paramilitary RSF.

The RSF did not immediately comment on the reports, and battlefield claims could not be independently verified.

The strikes came as the Sudanese armed forces and allied groups prepared a broad offensive to push into remaining RSF-held areas of North Kordofan and advance further west, military sources said.

In late June, the army recaptured substantial territory in North Kordofan, including the critical export road connecting the state to Khartoum, widening its security buffer around the capital and easing pressure on the regional hub of El Obeid.
