Sudan’s Burhan affirms commitment to U.S.-backed peace efforts in message to Trump
October 15, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – Sovereign Council Chairman and army commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan said Thursday that he sent a message to U.S. President Donald Trump, declaring Sudan’s commitment to Washington-backed peace efforts.
The United States is involved in the Quad mechanism initiative, which also includes Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt, aimed at ending the armed conflict in Sudan that has been ongoing since April 2023.
Washington proposed a three-month humanitarian truce, calling on the warring parties to agree to it without preconditions to allow humanitarian aid to reach those affected.
Burhan said in a post on the X platform that he had “sent a message to U.S. President Donald Trump, expressing Sudan’s commitment to peace efforts sponsored by the United States”.
He affirmed that the Sudanese government is ready to work in good faith with all parties to achieve a just and lasting peace that preserves the sovereignty, unity, safety, and dignity of the Sudanese people.
As part of its pressure on the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Washington has periodically imposed sanctions on leaders from both sides, as well as companies it accuses of funding the war effort.
Last September, the U.S. administration refused to grant Sovereign Council Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan a visa to attend the U.N. General Assembly meetings, linking the move to his stance on the proposed 90-day humanitarian truce.
