October 22, 2026 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese army continued its airstrikes on Thursday against Rapid Support Forces (RSF) positions in Darfur and Kordofan.

For about two weeks, the Sudanese army has been conducting a large-scale aerial operation, launching near-daily attacks on RSF-controlled cities in Darfur and Kordofan.

Eyewitnesses in El Fasher, North Darfur state, told Sudan Tribune that army drones attacked RSF positions at the guest house, the former government headquarters, the main market, and the ministries complex in the city centre, as well as deployments in the Al-Daraja neighbourhood in western El Fasher.

The witnesses reported that the attacks destroyed military equipment and caused heavy losses to civilian property in El Fasher’s main market, in addition to damaging the Sultan Ali Dinar Mosque in the city centre.

In East Darfur, witnesses said the attacks targeted the oil-rich Abu Jabra area.

The airstrikes hit and burned fuel-loaded trucks, along with RSF military vehicles and civilian cars.

The aerial attacks also extended to the city of Babanusa in West Kordofan state.

A military source told Sudan Tribune that the army’s intensified attacks in Darfur and Kordofan aim to weaken the RSF’s defensive and offensive capabilities.

The source added that the strikes seek to strip the paramilitary group of means that pose a military threat, paving the way for a ground sweep to clear the remaining areas of Kordofan and Darfur.

He stressed that the recent attacks achieved their goals, resulting in the deaths of dozens of RSF personnel and the destruction of fuel depots and air defence systems in Nyala and El Fasher.

On Wednesday, the cities of Nyala and Ed Daein were subjected to violent drone attacks.

The strikes targeted RSF headquarters in Ed Daein, as well as the homes of military commanders, ammunition, and fuel depots in Nyala, where the airport was also attacked.

The RSF and its allies had accused the army of killing dozens of civilians in airstrikes targeting the cities of Nyala, Ed Daein, Al-Dabab, and Suq Al-Na’am, alongside En Nahud, Al-Udayyah, Abu Zabad, and Wad Banda this week.
